Not completely but the expensive renting of halls or assembly hall ownership. Maybe with streaming they could have assemblies at the KH and stream the program. I bet they cut costs in a lot of ways. -

Honestly, I really don't see the purpose of conventions since they can just broadcast it at the Kingdom Halls. I don't see it happening anytime soon but I do maybe in a few decades. I know some JWs really look forward to them since they get to see friends that don't usually get to see. The BORG keeps them busy.

Assemblies & conventions are the biggest cash cows the WTS has. Very low expenses and at least $10 a head per day in income.
Assemblies are here to stay.

In most parts of Australia, they simply use the Assembly halls. So those halls are pretty well used EVERY weekend of the year (with both Circuit Assemblies and Regional Conventions)
That way the Org gets to charge "Rent" every weekend on an assembly hall that was well and truly paid for many years back!
Its pure profit!

Yep, they're a big money maker. No reason to stop. Plus, it's this special spiritual recharge where people see their friends and get a grasp of something bigger than just themselves. Oh, and by "special spiritual recharge" I mean they bring out the big guns, the big manipulation, and use it to reinforce what goes on every day to lock their members down.

I wondered whether eventually, when they have all their evil cult duckies in a row, I figured assemblies might be the only physical meetings they keep, the rest of the "spiritual food" will be available online.

People used to make a big donation after the new book was released, usually on the Saturday afternoon. I wonder how much contributions have gone down since they stopped new releases at conventions.

They make way to much money to stop these.

They may not have new release books but they make up for that in videos. I know if I was still drinking the kool aid the videos would be such a blessing compared to listening to the horrible, boring as dry toast talks delivered by the local brothers. I think I would have donated more just for being saved from death by poor speaker.
Plus videos relax you, zone you out and they're like a dopamine hit watching them in a crowd.

Yeah but a video is not an object in the hand the way a book is. I don’t think it creates the same sense of obligation to donate. They even used to position to contribution boxes next to to the queues for the new releases.
