I saw numerous plans for a new trade center site, this is the one I loved best.

The tallest spire will be 1776 feet tall, symbolic for the year of American Independence.

It features a memorial park 30 feet below street level, and a wedge of light to be shown every September 11 starting at 8:46am when the attacks started in 2001.

Here is more on the new design:

    Is this the approved plan?

    Yes, Room 215.

Here is some info on the architect, Daniel Libeskind. Take a look at the slide show on this site, it is very good.

Thanks Shakita.... whew! I'm so glad; I thought the other finalist's design was really ugly! (One person's opinion)

    This bit is brilliant:

A “wedge of light” created by precise positioning of the future buildings that will surround Ground Zero, so that every year on Sept. 11 a shaft of sunlight will fall onto the footprints from the time the first plane crashed into the North Tower until its collapse after South Tower went down.

I just love that they'd take the time to figure how to position that.

OK , I will admit that I read this title to be WTS Building Development - I thought it was a joke ! ,, BluesBrother going dyslexic.

Xander . I have read of buildings of antiquity with with arrangements for a shaft of sunlight to strike at a certain point on a certain day . It is not new technology .

I think the plans are great .

It is not new technology .

    No, of course not.

Architecture based around the environment is rather ancient practice.

    *cough*Stonehenge*cough*

The point was that it is a nice touch to see in a modern building - that they would take the time to figure out how to arrange the structure around that.

What a tribute to our lost ones !

There was another design which was really nice but didnt even make it to the final two. It was two glass buildings with naturally run air con and heating, every so many floors there was like an atrium and you could walk into the other building.

Oh well I am sure this one will be just as nice...........notice how its kind of sticking its finger up at the terrorists !!!!

Xander, I didn't mean to sound impolite.

Personaly I would have liked to see the towers rebuilt exactly the same as they were, just one floor higher. But I know that's unrealistic. I like the new design very much with only one reservatiion: The diamond-shaped cut-away design at the top is remenicent of that building in Chichago, I would have liked to see something a little more original.
