Do all witnesses pay income tax?

Jesus said that honest christians pay their taxes to the government. So, do all JW's pay income tax like they should?

As you all know, the more you earn, the more you pay income tax. I know so many witnesses in the cleaning business who know just where to stop, not to pay any income tax.

If a witness earns 20,000$ a year in the cleaning business, he will have to pay lets say 15% income tax. But if they say that their wives are also cleaning with them, and they have a kid, then it changes the amount of income tax to pay. They will come up with all kinds of reasons not to pay any income tax. I knew so many in the cleaning business, and rarely did their wives go help, but when they made out their income tax report, they included their wives as also working with them. That made them pay less income tax.

I don't know much about government laws, but when I compare myself to them, I payed 200$ a week in income tax, and they payed nothing at all.

They knew how much they could earn and knew when to stop working, not to pay any income tax.

    Honest people? yea, sure

Speaking of taxes, my brother mentioned that the present budget of the US would cost every man, woman and child in the US $10,000 if averaged out. And they want to destroy countries and build them back as a democracy with our money. It's getting expensive to be here in the USA.

Here are some facts to consider. If a couple is filing a joint return, shifting income to your spouse does nothing. Shifting income to children may help, however, if an individual is in the $20K per year income bracket, there is probably no effect.

At that low of income, a family may benefit from an "earned income credit." Thus, it may be to their benefit to file a tax return. I spent last tax season volunteering to complete tax returns for low-income individuals. I did more than a few returns where a low-income family walked away with a several thousand-dollar check in the form of a low-income credit.

Just some insight from a friendly CPA.

The point is when I pay 200-300$ a week in income tax, and my brother JW says he rathers to serve jehovah, and pay no income tax, that drives me nuts.

What has this to do with JWs

If they worked 1 more hour, they would pay income tax, but the stop there. When you pay 0$ income tax a year, that is not honest, especially for a JW. They could earn a better salary and pay a bit of income tax, but the rather give their contracts to others, so that they don't pay any income tax. Thats the point.

I knew a brother who had a cleaning business, and he hired brothers and sisters on welfare, and made them work at 2$ an hour. The welfare law in quebec, allows a person to earn 200$a month without being penalized. So he made them work 100 hours a month, and gave them 200$. By not giving the right hourly wage, that elder who owned the business was caught and fined. Because if they shoud have earned 600$ a month, then welfare wouldn't have give them their full check.

Brothers in the cleaning business screwed the government, and their fellow brothers.

Not if they can get away with not paying.

Paying cash under the table, employers not withholding for employees and then going bankrupt. There is an article that says it is not the elders job to check up on the brothers and sisters to see if they paid their taxes.

I turned a brother in anonymously who bragged that he had never paid taxes because there was no law. Too bad, so said, audit time.

My ex-daycare lady told me that since it was cash and she started care mid-year she was not declaring it. When she unceremoniously dumped my 10 month old daughter without notice (not even one day) after we were disfellowshipped, I informed her I WOULD be declaring my childcare deduction to the IRS. And I was going to tell them who and how much!! Her husband informed us that the reason was that they could get disfellowshipped for caring for 10 month old, afterall, I was a dead person and they couldn't talk to me.

Then I wrote a letter to the elders and told them all about Little Miss Theocratic and that they needed to make sure she declared all her income and that she was caring for children without a license (if you care for multiple families' children you have to have a license). Guess her husband wasn't going to get that appointment next CO visit!!

In my experience, the real question for self-emplyed dubs is "Do ANY JWs who are self-employed pay income tax?"

In my experience the answer is "very few."

I've seen self-employed dubs cheat on their taxes more than I can count.

The "world" is composed of "Egyptian Pharoahs," therefore it is OK to screw them whenever a dub thinks that that dub can get away with it. I've seen this too many times to mention, and that was in the late 1960's and early 1970's.

Many dubs are basically dishonest people where it counts, IMNSHO.

No wonder. Their religion is thoroughly dishonest and rotten from the core.

I knew several JWs in the cleaning business who used "creative accounting" to avoid paying income taxes on their income. Unfortunately for them, they were audited and wound up paying huge fines and penalties that dogged them for years. I also know several that deal in "cash" among themselves and don't report that income. It seems to be a mindset among the witnesses. That is pure and simple cheating and goes far beyond "taking advantage of legitimate tax breaks".
