    This from the official site:

Fathers also need to concern themselves with the spirituality of their children. Paul wrote: "You, fathers, do not be irritating your children, but go on bringing them up in the discipline and mental-regulating of Jehovah." (Ephesians 6:4) When parents heed the admonition not to irritate their children, as well as the direction to train them, the children feel that they are part of

Just ignoring the yukky "mental regulating" bit for a moment. This is the first time that I have ever seen the society put this gentler understanding on "Irritating your children". In the past, the meaning was explained as referring to "fathers who did not take their children to meetings or in the field service, thereby irritating them".

Now I never could understand how a child could be irritated by not being made to do witnessy things, I would have thought that being made to do these things would have been far more irritating than not doing them.

That's just one example of "spin" that can be found on the JW web-site at http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/

I suggest that the official site is there purely for the benefit of the media and "persons of goodwill" and bears no relation whatsoever to the hard-line stuff that is enacted by readers of the Kingdom Ministry and the Watchtower.

In short, the site is blatantly dishonest IMHO. What I would really love to see is some of the site's soft soap stuff posted next to the appropriate material in the official publications.

Anyone up for a few comparisons?

A kind of PRACTICE vs PREACH eh?

    good idea, wish I could.

In my bible eph 6:4 translates the "mental-regulating" as instruction and of course "Jehovah" as Lord.

    Hello E'Man,

It seems to depend very much on who is writing the script. Some members of Writing are very decent people, who want to say and do the right thing, others are cynical hard-liners with a career destiny clearly focused on Mother Brooklyn. One often sees a battle between these two camps fought on the pages of the WT itself.

I have read some very warming and surprisingly agreeable things in Watchtowers and this in articles only written for 'inside' consumption, only to see the whole spirit of the article unraveled the following week by another article which clearly undermines the point of the first one.

One thing I am sure about as I have seen this first hand, is that some of the most important decision-makers at the head of the WTS Corporation are constantly griping at the 'selfishness' of young people who are not willing to Pioneer, live in mobile homes, starve for the Kingdom like they were. They have a sneering disdain for contemporary Witnesses whom they view as soft and self-serving. These people are out of touch Mike, and are reminiscent of the Generals in WWI sending the cream of youth out over the trenches to be massacred wave after wave, while they discussed the merits or otherwise, of the Port that they were drinking.

Fortunately JW youths are learning to live by rote and behave as cynically as their leaders. To give in appearance while living a parallel life quite removed from WTS hard-core thinking. The WTS calls it a 'double-life', as one youth once told me ‘it is not a "double life", it is called survival'.

    Best regards - HS

I think that the official site is definately trying to put a more positive spin on the witnesses for the public. So of course they don't go into their true beliefs on what irritating means, but rather leave it vague and to the "worldly" reader they would think that they literally mean "not to irritate" their children, however the site doesn't make that clear.

Basically another example of their being very "lawyer-like" with their words, saying one thing, but meaning another. Misrepresenting themselves in order to look "better" or as some of us like to call it, lying. I just don't think that the God that they profess to believe him, so described by them, would want anything to do with their slimy religion. It really helps to prove that they are nothing but an ad agency for their publishing company and religion inc.

    discipline of Jehovah?

The discipline of "the Lord" is being in control of yourself - emotions/senses or spirits - like the centurion who says "to one go and he goes, and to another come and he comes". The wt is talking about punitive ideas - regarding the subjection of people instead - all that "mental regulating" and so on.

I really cannot think of anything that they say that isn't sh*t.

Teach them to think for themselves and they mightn't be so "irritated".

Spin from the official site, soft soap, or just a fib?

Do you believe that you are the only ones who will be saved?

No. Many millions who have lived in centuries past and who were not Jehovah's Witnesses will come back in a resurrection and have an opportunity for life. Many now living may yet take a stand for truth and righteousness before God's time of judgment, and they will gain salvation. Moreover, Jesus said that we should not be judging one another. Humans look at the outward appearance; God looks at the heart. He sees accurately and judges mercifully. God has committed judgment into Jesus' hands, not ours.—Matthew 7:1-5; John 5:22, 27.

Yep - the "Official" answer for critics who ask that much-feared question of "Are JW's the only one's who will be saved"? Of course, anybody who delves in any deeper will find that they will only be "saved" if they adjust their beliefs and become a JW!!!
