That's interesting, careful, yeah I see your point. They pared them down and got rid of most of that, no food, no plays, less and less fun, more and more Big Brother on the big screen.
Gotta agree with sir82, it's all about appearance in the Watchtower world. Spirituality means performance. Stuff as simple and silly as how many colors you highlight your Watchtower in like you're 12.

I was shocked the first time I experienced a convention stampede. I'm surprised I made it out alive.
They had an article in a KM telling about how an elderly sister had been injured by the thundering herd. I saw that almost happen on a steep set of stairs. Fortunately someone caught her before she tumbled.
I wondered how the new system could be a paradise if these people would be in it.
One year when my father was terminally ill, I was sent to the convention for the morning stampede to ensure he got a seat close to the exit. 8.00am. On your marks, get set, go!!
Nearly got bowled over by an elderly woman with a walking frame. Lol.
I got good seats for my parents and sat there awaiting their arrival so I could find some seats for me, the area they were in was only for the elderly and infirm. A few minutes later an "all important" attendant approached me and told me off for sitting there. When I said these seats were for my parents, I got the third degree about how old and infirm they were exactly.
Made sure to come by later and double check that I had moved. I could see them from my seat way up higher in the stadium.

mcte, I have seen people, many, abuse the seating arrangement for older jws. I acted as transportation for 2 older sisters (80's) who had no jw family. At conventions, I acted as the one to handle any medical problems that occurred during the convention (I had medical POA). They got the third degree for saving a seat for me (I was parking the car). But some attendants love the authority they feel they have and abuse it.

Implanting it in the brain =- relating it to God- just type in Org instead of God and the connection mentally is made.

Just by going to the conventions and assemblies sort of shows that "obedience training" is working. Sitting there for hours listening to "brothers" drone on and on shows that we have been trained----to not think, to not reason, to not doubt, to not do anything except what the wt says. Damn we're dumb!

It’s crazy to think everyone schedules time off work to attend these assemblies and conventions, in addition to spending hundreds on hotels, gas and food. What makes it so odd is it’s the same information you hear from your local Kingdom Hall over and over again. It’s a huge cash generating event for the Organization, that’s all there is to it. The only bright moment for people is the concluding “Amen” each day so they can enjoy a nice dinner and swim at the hotel.
