It was the last Sunday -13th Nov - study WT. (September 2016 study edition of the WT) Article entitled:-

"Does Your Style of Dress Glorify God?" paragraph 17.

It is of course written so you can have hours of endless debate but here in my patch of the UK (Southern England but not on Bethel's doorstep) this article has been read as slackening control. I even heard that one nearby body of elders nearby discussed the article and relaxed their "no beards" rule for appointed men.

17 What about the propriety of brothers wearing a beard? The Mosaic Law required men to wear a beard. However, Christians are not under the Mosaic Law, nor are they obliged to observe it. (Lev. 19:27; 21:5;Gal. 3:24, 25) In some cultures, a neatly trimmed beard may be acceptable and respectable, and it may not detract at all from the Kingdom message. In fact, some appointed brothers have beards. Even so, some brothers might decide not to wear a beard. (1 Cor. 8:9,13; 10:32) In other cultures or localities, beards are not the custom and are not considered acceptable for Christian ministers. The paragraph quoted above from yesterday's WT study says in part: "In fact, some appointed brothers have beards."

If you want to grow a beard then you should have no problem with the elders. I know of several appointed brothers in this area who have had a beard for many years.

Just don't expect to be giving a talk on the next Regional Convention programme though!

On the flip side, I regularly look at the local police arrest reports, and at least 90% of the men arrested have facial hair for their mug shots. The percentage is much lower for women.

The beard issue amongst JWS arose from the Rutherford era. As an opposition to the Russell era diehards. I was always told growing up it was because of the 60's counter culture, but now beards are not counter culture, but rather very common and respectable. Truth is it wasn't the 60's it started before that.
