Gay advice from the Governing Body

According to them you are not gay if you are attracted to the same sex, it's just hormones and you might grow out of it.

I wonder what hormones in particular they are talking about and if they feel that a female who goes through menopause is in danger of turning gay or even if taking hormones will adjust your thinking?

This is from the WT org website

    https://www.jw.org/en/bible-teachings/family/teenagers/ask/pressure-to-be-gay/

I’m Attracted to the Same Sex—Does That Mean I’m Gay?

    Not at all!

Fact: In many cases, same-sex attraction is nothing more than a passing phase.

That’s what Lisette, 16, who was at one time attracted to a girl, found. She says: “Through my biology classes in school, I learned that during the adolescent years, hormone levels can fluctuate greatly. I truly think that if more youths knew more about their bodies, they would understand that same-sex attraction can be temporary and they wouldn’t feel the pressure to be gay.”

A youth at a crossroads deciding which road to follow

All youths face a choice—either to adopt the world’s degraded view of sexuality or to follow the high moral path set forth in God’s Word

But what if your attraction to the same sex seems to be more than a passing phase? Is it cruel of God to tell someone who is attracted to the same sex to avoid homosexuality?

If you answered yes to that last question, you should know that such reasoning is based on the flawed notion that humans must act on their sexual impulses. The Bible dignifies humans by assuring them that they can choose not to act on their improper sexual urges.—Colossians 3:5.

The Bible’s stand is not unreasonable. It simply directs those with homosexual urges to do the same thing that is required of those with an opposite-sex attraction—to “flee from fornication.” (1 Corinthians 6:18) The fact is, millions of heterosexuals who wish to conform to the Bible’s standards employ self-control despite any temptations they might face. Those with homosexual inclinations can do the same if they truly want to please God.—Deuteronomy 30:19.

That would be funny if it weren't so tragic. There is zero evidence that being gay is a passing thing, this is horrible advice. I really feel for the gay JWs that might actually believe this nonsense.

So, advice to homosexuals is the same as for heterosexuals: Flee fornication.

So what are homosexuals complaining about? Heterosexuals don't engage in such moaning whilst fleeing fornication!

    End of story.

Now spend your whole lifetime suppressing your homosexuality just as heterosexuals are told to do in Scripture.

Of course, minor exception: Heterosexuals can date members of the opposite sex and marry with the robust support of their families and religious communities. Bravo!

They can "flee fornication" through sanctioned marital sex. Bravo again!

Sorry, you moaning homosexuals. No such sanction for you.

Now stop your bellyaching, and keep fleeing fornication, with no intimate and loving relationships. Yours is a lifetime of fleeing fofnication until the new system or until you die, whichever comes first.

    No bravos for you!

Is it cruel of God to tell someone who is attracted to the same sex to avoid homosexuality?

I like the fact they pose the question at least. Their answer is completely inadequate of course, but at least they're starting to ask the right questions.

In just the past ten years society has undergone a profound change of view on this issue. I reckon it will be very difficult for JWs to hold out. Interesting times.

You are right, SBF. The language on the topic is moderate with none of the loaded guilt-inducing rhetoric and condemnation that typified advice to earlier considerations of young JWs who identified as having a gay sexual orientation.

That said, the brief consideration in the online article is appallingly simplistic, offering young men and women little of substance to hrlp them get on eith their lives and efforts to flee fornication". But, at least the superficial quality of the admonition is on a par with that offered to their heterosexual young people.
