Refusing to become an elder

I know someone who's family is very spiritual and says that her brother only pioneers and does not want to become an elder for various reasons, probably not wanting to deal with people's problems, and also the tremendous workload they put on them. Is this considered refusing advancement by God, or just choosing your own way? He has not been "tapped" to become one, but he merely hasn't strived to become one.

I was asked on two occasions and told i was being considered as the next Elder.

The cong here is very much a "boys club" dominated by a bully elder. So there was no way I wanted to be part of that.

I simply said "Thanks, but I feel that I can be of more support to the brothers and sisters remaining as an approachable Ministerial Servant rather than being an Elder. I dont need the stripes on my sleeve."

They took that as an attitude against them...it was all downhill from there.

I support anyone who chooses to not take on an appointment.

    Good for your friend!

Any male JW who doesn't strive to "reach out," or refuses to accept any assignment offered to them - especially to become "part of the team" - will be classed as persona non grata by the appointed men and their families/friends.

I said more or less word for word what Stuck said, and meant it.

Apparently more and more young guys are doing this, most not even wanting to be a M.S.

They will be guilt tripped by C.O's and others no doubt, but when asked "Why aren't you an appointed man ?" they could always use my other reply " Because I always touch up the C.O's wives when they visit ! " I really said that several times.

The geezer may not be a PIMO but realises the hassle involved in being an Elder. I knew a few like that when I was an Elder. I wondered why they didn't want the extra honour of being in the bully boy club.

Mind you, one of them had porn (not kiddy porn I hasten to add), found on his PC by his lodger. Fair play to him. Masturbation is much more healthy than being a company stooge.

It is drilled into men that any who refuse a "privilege of service" are saying no to Jehovah. Also some CO's will compare them to weak sisters. Its a scam to enslave further any good men. So a simple "no" is applaudable.

I remember a brother who did become a elder and within one week step down because he could not handle the pressure of being a elder. I think he broke the world's record of being the shortest elder appointment ever. Lol. Still Totally ADD

Smart. He sounds like he also getting ready to start refusing to be a dub also! Once you start turning down "theocratic" privileges and resisting the "holy spirit" you are looking for the exit, IMHO that is!

    just saying!

Wasnt there some statement about 4 years ago that "sisters" should only consider ministerial servants and elders as marriage material?

That is classic cult behavoir. Control the males by controlling access to the females.
