I Found Some Extremely Rare Rutherford Recordings

I was blown away when I found these Watchtower records with Rutherford on them. These aren't the ones that were used door to door. These are 16 inch records that were sent to radio stations to broadcast Rutherford over the airwaves. I cannot find a damn thing about them online. It's quite possible that I own the only existing copies of these.

I can't just stick these things on my turntable to play them because they're far too large. I have a bunch of turntable parts, so I'm going to cobble something together to play these things. Should be an interesting listen! Anybody ever see these before?

Lol, Columbia sounds like they wanted to have no part of it. It says ‘this record was pressed but not recorded by Columbia phonograph’.

Watch Tower History: The Watchtower (IBSA) recordings (truthhistory.blogspot.com)

Those my friend are Transcription records, which were 16 inch in diameter, ran at 33rpm and played from the centre outwards – a problem for collectors who wish to play surviving copies today. The records are rare today because the users were asked to destroy then when they became worn and the sound quality deteriorated. From about 1931 they were used in sound cars and later on played in rented halls and then on radio stations.

From what I can tell, these records came from the CBC, since there are some 16 inch ones mixed into the lot. The Watchtower ones are actually pressed.

If you can figure out how to play them, please consider converting them to digital (mp3) and making them available to everyone. Lots of people would like to use them for research or just the fun of finding hidden "gems" of the old BS they used to put out.

After you do that, I'd bet the originals would fetch a tidy sum on eBay.

The congregation I was in growing up was the original congregation in the area and had a lot of things, like that, the phonograph they used to play Rutherford's records at the door and the records. I took both records and player home and listened to them. Hard to sleep through talks like that, he boomed it out. It gave me some perspective of what life was back there for WTS members. It made me imagine when the drove around with the sound cars blasting out those talks to the neighborhood in general. https://i.pinimg.com/564x/03/e8/bd/03e8bd7d62d0c56f7b0fea4132353a8a.jpg

    Hi Blondie,

It's so good to see you're still kicking.
