Why do JWs insist on still quoting from the Old Testament to back up some of their wacky ideas? Such as on blood, beards, abortion, tattoos, etc.
Surely if the Mosaic Law code was nailed to the torture stake ALL of its parts were cancelled. Isn't that why the Apostle Paul berated some of the early Christian congregations for trying to adhere to the Law which Jesus had cancelled out. Yet the WT insist on returning to it for principles and advice.
The “scriptural” answer is that they want to “be under the law.” Paul talks about that in the Bible. The GB are anti-Christ.
Dubs have no relationship with Jesus, in fact it scares them and they malign “born again” Xians.

The Old Testament, on multiple occasions, specifies that gods law mentioned there is to time indefinite.
How can Jesus void or change it? Isn't he the greatest apostate and rebel then?

Paul said in the Greek Scriptures that it was necessary to abstain from: blood, strangled, fornication. How can this be explained?

Those versed in the history of the Jewish people would be quick to tell you that the Jewish writers of the Old Testament never intended it to be taken literally. Rather, it was written purely as a collection of folklore, with a view towards helping preserve the unique identity of the people after they were exiled to Babylon.
You can only marvel at the craziness of those who allow themselves to get bent all out of shape over the things said in a collection of Middle East fairy tales!

The WT are bible literalists for the most part and when it suits the m, legalistic when it suits them and they like to have absolute laws on behavior so they can control people and the new testament is way too ambiguous for that. The accounts of Jesus with his illustrations and parables far too woo woo for that purpose.
The answer is an easy one... because, for one thing, Jesus was a Jew and quote extensively from del Old Testament, I think is also known as the Hebrew Bible....just saying
My understanding is that although they are not under the strict letter of the law, they use the principle established through the law to guide their way of thinking.
The reason that they go to the OT so much is because they have so little in common with very obvious problems with following the commands of Jesus.
Really? Jesus never said that he was God
He said ir so many times in so many ways that the WTS just distorts.
Quick example - Jesus said to come to him, he didn't say 'come to my teachings' or 'Go to the Father',
He said 'All men MUST come to me to go to the Father'
He also said "I am the way, the truth and the life"
JWs deny the most obvious truth of WHO Jesus is. They haven't a &%$#ing clue
The Hebrew Scriptures and its Greek translation (the Septuagint -- LXX), as well as books such as 1 Enoch, Jubilees, Sirach, etc., were the authoritative source for the "Jesus-follower" writers. Particularly as their foes - the Pharisees - accepted Tradition as being equal to the written word.
There is also no way that any of the NT writings is to be taken as literal history. None of it is a documentary in the sense that we understand. They were writing religious material, not documentary evidence. The Gospels and the Book of Acts are religious fictions, artfully crafted to manufacture religious outcomes and behaviours. The writings by Paul are simply his opinions -- not shared by all of his contemporaries.
