How sad!
We would all be better off if the JWs would really start reading and STUDYING the REAL BIBLE for themselves. The NWT just doesn't do justice to the Word of God.

Well, I have put up all my geraniums in pots. First I had to dig a path to my shed and then defrost the potting soil, frozen in to a single lump. The geraniums are ugly shrivelled sticks right now, but I have hope. Sphere, you made me laugh out loud. ...and sphere and and acsot, sadly tomatoes do not do well in my garden. Too shady. What in the world is a tomatilla?
Blondie, I think you are right about lazy brains. My honey was totally lost when we tried to do a study from a regular Christian publication. The study started with a whack of scripture, followed by a question and a lot of blank space. To fill in our own answer. By thinking for ourselves. Where were the leading questions, the text to underline, the right answer? My honey was lost. By the way, do the WT articles ever cover some of the classic stories of the bible from beginning to end? My honey is ignorant of many of these stories.
edp - Hey, even the NWT alone would be better than what goes on now. The articles go on and on and on about the latest WT agenda, with a passing swipe at the scriptures.
You're probably right, jgnat.
Personally, I haven't read very much out of the NWT. Therefore, I guess that I am not really qualified to say too much about it.

jgnat, yes, JWs can't handle it when it isn't read the paragraph, then the question, then find the answer in the paragraph and regurgitate it. That is why JWs either loved or hated the Greatest Man book. I loved it because it wasn't tied to the paragraphs. I heard one sister say, "Why don't they have the questions on the same page as the paragraph?"
As to classic stories from the Bible, there have been some about major Bible characters, like Moses or Abraham. Your honey just needs to read the Bible Story book. It would be better if he had read the Bible through a few times over his career as a JW. The WTS had a program of discussing the segments on people in the Insight book during the ministry school either during the instruction talk or the student talks. He probably never pre-studied and probably slept through those parts (sorry, I don't want to make too much fun of him; he probably had a lot of company in the audience). I found I dominated any Bible-based games among JWs. I was sometimes barred from playing because no one could defeat me.
I recommend the Bible Story book for your honey. Read one to him every night.
