If a thousand of our years is like one day to the Almighty then the 33 years his son was away from heaven is a mere 47.5 minutes. The period of his death must have seemed like a few seconds before he was resurrected back home.

What utter tosh the Bible is.

When I hit 60 years a year seemed like a month, now at 70 a year is like a week. Our Xmas decorations was never put away, after realizing we only have three months for Xmas what the hell.

Sorry, were you ever a JW? Did you have a "free home Bible study"? Did you ever learn how to use the reference material in THE BACK OF YOUR BIBLE?

I'm stunned that anyone on an XJW site could ask such a question, really!

When I was a pioneer I had a couple of return visits at an apartment that was a little hippie commune (this was before 1970) one day one of the guys tells me that while part of the rotating crowd in the apartment was "discussing the Bible" with me in the front room, the half of the crowd in the back rooms were either getting high or servicing a couple of ladies they had back there.

I was so offended that they didn't offer to share with me, I never went back there!

Were you one of those guys, Sorry?

James, imagine if you lived forever, the shortening of the time impression. It affects the reaction time too, perhaps that is why prophecies are never fulfilled, wt puts them too close. The overlapping generation groups end at ~2016, that is only 2 and 1/2 hours away, awake! waky waky. or wacky?

What I don't get is that they always say one day is like a thousand years, then how come they've been saying the Big A is just around the corner? I've heard that growing up back back in the 60's till the day she died from my mother, just like the rest of em' always said. Yet they acknowledge the scripture about no man knows the day or hour, plus the one day is 1,000 years, yet they all still sound as phony as Fred Sanford and all those phony heart attacks he has everyday, you can cry wolf just so much until folks don't want to hear from you anymore.

I recall the 1000 year as 1 day explanation while I was in - I recall it being a part of a WT study during the mid to late 90s.

It's based on 2 Peter 3:8, which says that "with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day".

This is a popular quibble used to "explain" why Jesus hasn't returned yet. The WT and others will argue that when New Testament writers said that it was the "last hour" or that the end was "at hand," they were speaking in terms of how God perceives time:

"with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day" (2 Peter 3:8).

So we are supposed to believe that God inspired certain writers to tell people that Jesus would come again someday, but he chose to do so in language that had meaning only to an omniscient, omnipotent deity.

"Soon" didn't mean "soon," and "at hand" didn't mean "at hand," as humans understand these terms, but as God understands them.

Such an explanation makes God a devious entity who chose to reveal important information in sort of a secret code that would have meaning only to an omniscient, omnipotent deity.

The WT and others may think that this quibble is a reasonable explanation for the texts that said it was "the last hour" or that the end was "at hand", but they know that it doesn't give a satisfactory explanation to the passages where Jesus said that he would return before his generation had passed away, and so they resort to all sorts of speculative interpretations to make these passages not mean what they clearly say.
