Why Do Kingdom Halls Smell Funny?

  You will notice that the carpets and the chairs are very similar in all the halls up and down the country, that is because they get them from the same supplier. Needless to say owned by bruvvers. This, I think, contributes to that samey smell you get when you walk into a hall, the fabric and carpets are heavily doused with scotchgard before despatch I think and it lingers.

  And in addition to all the foregoing, there is all that cheap grade triple-Z paper all their stuff is printed on and the home-made ink they use. And this accounts for the similiarity of smell in all KHs. It's in the printed materials.

  It's because they don't have any windows and can't air the place out. I think it's a combination of the cheap carpet, unwashed bodies, bathrooms, dirty diapers, and hot air. LOTS of hot air.

  I have also noticed that they do not properly run the AC which results in high humidity over long periods of time... which in turn results in mold and mildew.

  It's yardsale clothes smell!

  Part of the requirements for field service is hitting yard sales. These yardsale people are getting rid of clothes that have been put away for years......only to be bought and worn by polyester Bob at the next sunday meeting.

  When there is enough yardsale polyester worn from brothers and the yardsale rabbit coat worn by sister tacky.....it can stink up the place.
