"I wonder if they genuinely believe they are living in a spiritual paradise right now or are they like some fool that's been conned out of their life savings and doesn't want to admit they were taken in?"

Wow Simon! That hit me like a ton of bricks - THAT is exactly what it's like - but even worse. They've been conned into believing they would have their lives saved forever and don't want to admit they were taken in.

So sorry about your father and to hear your mother is so incredibly deluded and twisted - no natural affection indeed.

Condolences on the loss of your father Simon. Sorry to hear about losing your mother to the cult :( so very sad.

    SIMON:

Sorry about your dad and how your JW mom behaved towards you. It’s incomprehensible to me how Witnesses can do this to a child. In all likelihood, she may never see you again.

I am glad you got back to visit the UK for the happy occasion and time does fly. I’m glad you are settled in Canada.

I can put up with shunning from pretty much everyone but it cuts like a hot knife when it's a parent or for kids - a grandparents. How do you explain to children why Grandma hates us?

The psycho-religio mind virus WT installs in people's brains is pretty damn good to be able to bypass the natural maternal instinct to love and protect so effectively in otherwise "normal" people.

Truly evil what WT and cults like it do to family.

    Simon:

I surely feel for you my friend! I did not know my mother and father had died until 3 months AFTER they were already in the ground.

I had to find out from old newspaper clippings from the obituary section.

Thanks to my so-called loving JW pioneer sister and her Ministerial Servant husband. In their opinion I had no right to even be be at the funerals.

    Atlantis!

Simon, I'm sorry about both of your parents. My sincere condolences. Thank you for sharing this with us.

I guess as long as you tip your cap to their authority, they don't care if you molest children, commit crimes or any number of things that they claim to abhor.-- That is something I cant wrap my head around.

I'm glad I went. I'm really glad I got to attend my brothers wedding. I'm really glad and thankful that we left that shitty little cult because it really does make people sick to behave in such an unnatural way, especially when I know she wouldn't even be able to defend or explain why beyond a lame "the governing body said so" reason. Pathetic.

So, with the WTS you're sometimes only allowed one parent at a time and now I have none as far as I'm concerned because shunning works both ways - I won't be bothering to attend the next funeral.

Thank you so much for sharing this. It really is like you describe it, a tragic comedy. You cry about it, you laugh about it.

A lot of us know well what it means skipping the funeral of a JW loved one. No matter what our paths are, and how different we are as people, this JW nonsense that we have in common really connects us (like it or not).

    Thanks again.

Simon, what you did was better than any anti witness flyer, campaign or guerilla warfare. You caused your Witness mom to expose for herself the tragedy of the Watchtower. People will be talking about her antics every time witnesses come up in conversation. Nicely done. Sorry she's held captive by the tower.

I'd have asked why she would worship a god so evil as to demand that she choose between him and her own child. If she would never make such an ultimatum herself without being told to, then why would a "loving" god? And demand to know where in the Bible it says to disown your own flesh and blood?

This is truly awful. Shunning policy will need to change one day, but it won’t be soon enough. They can’t undo the hurt that is already done.
