Actually, in my teenage years, I met my first ex-Bethelite. Those were the days that only single men could sign up and only for four years at once. Sort of like West Point, can't get married until you complete 4 years.
He was happy, getting married, and there was no darkness surrounding his leaving. He was viewed as an asset, an elder with Bethel training with Bethel stories to tell.
After that, many a Bethelite came home...very few lifers from my area. Some left and went into the circuit or district work. Actually, some tended to lord it over the congregation as if they had more of the holy spirit because of associating with the GB and other anointed men.
