I only ever knew of one case in which an elder was physically assaulted by another brother. By all accounts, this elder received a very sound beating. Not knowing the details of what led to this incident, I can't comment on the rights or wrongs of it. I do know, however, they the guy who administered the beating did have a problem with anger management (or lack of it) - and came a family that was quite renown its brawling.
Has Anyone Ever Just Gotten Mad and "Popped" an Elder?

I heard of an elder popping someone for questioning his authority. I've seen some elders get very angry and get close to that. I reckon this is more common, a lot of elders have serious entitlement issues.

Cold Steel, I congratulate you on your medical doctor degree and law degree. I worked with high-powered lawyers at the time at the time so knew I was in no danger of being sued or brought up on charges legally. In the litigious US, any lawsuit can be brought to the table, but it can still be rejected as invalid. I didn't worry about his lawsuit, he was a coward which is why he conducted his feeley mealy ways in secret. He had more to lose.
He's dead, due to his disregarding his doctor's advice, people are safe.....I guess in your mind anything is possible.

Blondie, I believe you've misinterpreted me somehow. I was all for what you did. If anything, you should have broken his other finger, too! The guy had it coming.
You embarrassed him, which is commendable, so please don't take me wrong. Everything you did was right. They gave him power and he abused it.
