2018 Memorial and Special Talk Speculation

  So we all know that the special talk titled "Who Really Is Jesus Christ?" will be given before the Memorial next year which is very new. Also new this year is that the special talk will be prerecorded and given by a branch committee member rather than a brother from the local congregation.

  Does anyone else think that this will be an opportunity for the organization to turn the hose on the 144,000 doctrine either saying that everyone should partake or that only the Governing Body can partake or something else along those lines? From the words of Jesus at John 6:53, only those who eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood have life in them. Whatever they do, I expect it to address the concerns about the growing number of partakers in previous years, making it so they no longer need to publish the number in the Field Service Report (which supposedly will be posted online since the Yearbook is discontinued).

  Does anyone else have any ideas?

  I reserve judgment on whether they will publish the partaker number, or the rest of the statistics in full online, as promised.

  The GB always seem to take the easy way out. When faced with disconfirmation over the "generation", instead of having a fundamental reevaluation, they came up with the most ridiculous fudge.

  Dropping the literal 144,000 teaching would be the brave but rational thing to do. But my guess is they'll go with an easier option. They may simply stop publishing the number and assert that the "real" anointed are declining in number without giving specifics. They've demonstrated they can tell JWs just about anything and they'll take it. JWs might not like it, but what are they going to do? Not much they can do. They have no power. They can shut up and accept it, or else speak out and be shunned. That's the rules of the game among JWs, as currently constituted.

  I don't think they will change the 144,000 doctrine. They will let it slowly be phased out without any fanfare or comments. I think the real change will be revenue. I anticipate that every talk given remotely by governing body or their helpers will have something new added to the program. That "New Thing" will be a special contribution box at the back so for that meeting ALL revenue will be forwarded to the WTBTS $$$ The days of televangelism are almost here.

  "Who Really Is Jesus Christ?" Maybe they will finally admit that JC is an incompetent "King" in so far as he hasn`t accomplished anything these past 104 years by then 2018.

  They could somehow come up with nu-lite that everybody should partake of the bread &wine and somehow "spin"the idea that there are two classes overlapping each other.

  They got away with it on the generation teaching so why not this one ?

  Personally I have run out of patience with the fairyland politics of the JW org whether they redefine 144,000 or not. May I please remind you lot that Rutherford stole the idea of a heavenly and an earthly division from an 'apostate' who had vied with him for presidency of the org after Russell's death. He was FL Alexander Freytag who began his splinter group The Church of the Kingdom of God in 1921, which I believe was still running at the end of the 20th century in Switzerland.

  That aside, I wonder whether it occurs to any JW to ask why Jesus is called Jesus Christ ?

  For people in the Roman world there had to be something to distinguish between the christ called Jesus and other saviour christs who shared the same credentials and biographical outline such as Dionysus, Attis. Mithra, Orpheus, Horus etc.

  The Jewish christ simply got better publicity through Imperial Roman patronage which in later centuries, as Rome's power declined, "Jesus" Christianity became the exclusive and compulsory form of worship. Worship of any other christs were forbidden and written out of existence.

  I think the congregations would be better served by explaining these facts instead of the usual hackneyed drivel which will be found at the pre- memorial talk.
