I'm with Fink. More people would be there because, like the Catholics or any of the others, you can do whatever you want without repercussions. You could attend a public talk without the disgrace or shunning. You could feel good about yourself. That's what they take away with shunning. Your self-respect. Long after you have learned from your mistakes, they keep beating up on you.
If shunning was not a tool used by jw what would happen

If shunning wasn't used by JWs...
...there'd be a lot fewer JWs.

I really doubt this very much even if they took away shunning their core doctrines would still be judgmental and negative. Maybe some people would show up once a month, or go to the memorial for family. Overall, though, active zealous members would go way down. They would have to change everything to be a place casual church goers would enjoy.

It would cause a domino effect: the membership would slowly drop because the fear would be gone. People could research in the open, talk and deal with Df family members without repercussions, and the conditional bonds would be broken...then the finances would begin to fall due to less members...then the society would also have a falling out

It would be better for the watchtower because people would leave and so they would be able to sell off more kingdom halls and have more money to spend

Probably not too much... Catholics for example practice excommunication for really serious offenses....the only thing is that without widespread shunning like in in JW land, there would be there a lot more of dissent....exactly the way they don't like it.
