Well, I guess for me, an American celebrity speaking out in such a manner in a foreign country is like a family member going to an stranger's house and bad mouthing me, or someone else in the family. I would just prefer that sort of thing staying within the family.
Remember the furor over Clinton protesting Vietnam while he was a student in England?
I do think they are entitled to their opinion, just like everyone else. Just because they have celebrity status does not automatically mean that they are not informed on the issue. Ok, they are singers. I'm a housewife and Mother. Does that mean my opinions uninformed and not valid? Does one require a degree in International Relations to have their opinion respected? Granted, I don't have the platform to distribute my high falutin opinions, and have access to the public ear, but, OH BABY! If I did!
Teenyuck made a good point. What bothers me, also, is that people equate celebrity with credibility, and fame with knowledge.

LuckyLucy, I think your letting yourself be brainwashed by the world and popular opinion, something that EVERYONE has to fight against, but then again that's just my opinion. NORMAL / NOT NORMAL, THIS SIDE/ THAT SIDE, BLAH / BLAH, that's why the world's in such a mess.

To clarify:
I do believe in free speech.
However, these celebrities are not spokesmen for the average person. The fact is, that due to their profession, they are given a microphone to talk into and sometimes speak and show their stupidity and ignorance. Some, do speak well, but is far from the usual. But these bonehead celebrities confuse the fact that we enjoy their talent with whether or not we want to hear them talk about current events or issues.
As I said earlier, act, sing, dance, entertain us. But shut the hell up, especially on topics that they know little about. Just because they are famous, doesn't give them the right to stuff down our throats their little causes.
To touch on an earlier post, my name here represents freedom of choice, happiness in living in a nation that allows that, freedom from religious cults, freedom in my pursuit in business, freedom to enjoy my friends and family the way I choose, overall freedom in life.
May all experience freedom in their lives.

It's a cause that encompasses the safety of the whole world, so it is large in that sense, and it is a cause promoted by very large numbers of people, so it is large in terms of numbers.
