Shiite Muslim men cut their heads with swords during the annual ritual to mark Ashoura Day in the southern Lebanese town of Nabatiyeh, on Thursday March 13, 2003. Hundreds of Shiites in south Lebanon marked the 7th century killing of their most revered saint Imam Hussein, by slashing their heads with blades on the occasion known as Ashoura. Al Hussein was a grandson of Islam's Prophet Mohammed and is a symbol of martydrom for Shiite Muslims.

Well no, we didn't do this exactly. But we had our own forms of self-abnegation: we accepted the guilt trips put on us by the GB; we went door-to-door; we went to five meetings a week with people we couldn't tolerate; we were constantly told how "imperfect" we were - and we bought it; we gave up educations; we gave up careers; we gave up friends and family members who didn't toe the line; we wore yesterday's fashions because today's were worldly; we gave up our own god-given ability to think and to reason; we wasted vacations at absurd, boring, and hot assemblies, suffering fanny fatigue to the max; some of us gave up our children to the WTBTS's fantasy blood teachings....

No we didn't cut ourselves with swords as in the picture, but we had our own "hair shirts" we had to wear.

Different religion, different hair shirt, same philosophy.

Gee....you mean you can be a good person who God might love........and you don't have to cut your head or go to meetings? No way!

    Mega,

I'm willing to bet that they are probably bright enough to accept a blood transfusion after the ceremony, to avoid death though.

    Who's crazier?

Ballistic, yeah I guess it was in the back of my mind somwhere. But I miss your point. What are the connotations to the Brits of the phrase "fanny fatigue"? (I bet I'll get a large charge of amusement from your answer.)

Ha, Heaven, you are probably right.

My only point is there are nuttier religious groups than the insane asylum religion we came out of.
