The real Gorby has died today. He was my inspiration for change, with perestroika and glasnost.

That is why I chose the name Gorby at JWN.

See the man at the background. He was there also.

A man that wanted to avert a war at all cost, because at the same age as I, he had seen it. A happily married man too, with a truly beautiful wife.

he had peace in his time. too bad, his successors would not build on t his foundation.

Yes, there is Putin’s sour face right there, next to Gorby. He needs to go.

I have always held that the negotiations and leadership which defused the cold war was one of the greatest accomplishments of the 20th century. Kudos to Reagan and Gorbachev. I'd put Lech Welesa in that group too

Yes, wouldn't it be great if we had the likes of Ronald Reagan and Gorbachev today. I'm not sure there are men of that caliber today in politics. In fact, pretty damn sure there are not!

Then again, Jane Wyman might disagree with me.

They were proper statesmen, not mere politicians. Sadly, a very rare species during any era, and none existent right now.

PS: I would include George Bush (the elder) in that category, also.

If you tried to find a bible parallel to him, you would have to pick Joseph. A man of integrity, who told it like it is, got his people out of a pickle, not really appreciated by his own, ,

they, like wt thinkers prefer the Davids of this world, conquerors, womanizers. war criminals.

Yes a real man, who sought to do good, ultimately quite unpopular in his own country despite his best efforts. Lots of good interviews on YouTube showing a man of intelligence good intent. He and Reagan agreed between them that nuclear war could not be won and must never be fought. I’ve heard him say (after the collapse) that he supported the ideals of the February revolution but not the November revolution. I think the November revolution could have worked, were it not for outside interference from Britain and other capitalist nations at the crucial point.
