I heard this very same illustration at the international convention in Dortmund 2009. Also by Geoffrey Jackson. Back then I was quite touched by the illustration lol.
I guess he noticed this thing works well in keeping folks attached and donating a bit longer, and he's recycling it.

Problem with this football illustration is that Jackson forgot to mention how many times the wtbts "fumbled" the ball!

I believe this is the talk people are referring too. It has to do with playing soccer. A totally ridiculous and worn out illustration, that encourages no one. It the same nonsense we’ve all heard for decades.
