I agree with you that they differ for the sake of being different and want more attention paid to the religion, instead of the individual. Of course, they would paint that as "vanity".

I agree only in the sense that you should strive to improve yourself every day.
I do like the convenience of making grander plans coinciding with the calendar year, though.

My new years resolution is
play more guitar and listen to more music
start painting again
Volunteer to help the disabled people
eat healthy and exercise more
don't wast so much time on JW.Net ha ha
