Yessiree...I had an afternoon off last Friday. So I decided to venture down to the Toronto Humane Society.
I was so surprised at the variety of animals: dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, ferrets, rats, mice and birds.
Rayzorblade found the bird cage, and well...having a penchant for my flying feathered friends, I looked at the four that were there. A couple of them were given up because their previous owner developed an allergy to them. Another, looked abused .
Well, I managed to watch them for about an hour, and decided to come back on Monday to pick up one of the birds.
I arrived on Monday, and was met by a very dilligent Toronto Humane Society staff member. I managed to convince them (40 questions, honestly) that I could care for this little bird.
I eventually walked out the door with a little yellow parakeet. She is very tiny, but very easy-going. She's OK around me, but she's obviously not used to being handled, but I will work with her gradually. She loves music, and will chirp to a favourite song. She has been eating her seeds/millet, and drinking water. So she's slowly adjusting.
If anyone on this forum is considering owning a pet, I would highly recommend their local Humane Society. There are so many animals in need of a good home and stable loving environment. Most of the animals (dogs/cats) are spayed or neutered. There's always something for somebody there.
Has anyone on the forum, adopted a pet from their local humane society? Just curious. What was your experience?
