Tight pants, colored socks, blue shirts, beards, wire -rimmed glasses...

Does anybody remember any thing else that was once or still is proscribed against faithful J-dubs?

When brothers in our KH started wearing different colored shirts rather than white, it caused a great stir and ruckus. One popular young elder wore a blue shirt on stage when delivering his part, and it was considered very shocking. There was a LOT of discussion about this, but then other young brothers began wearing blue shirts. And suddenly it was okay.

And wire-rimmed glasses were frowned on back in the 60's or so as it implied you might be supportive of the hippi movement, or emulating John Lennon too much.

    ...

And to think, we have ever-continuing rants against clothing and appearance that are helping to wake people up from this cult -- our own Cappytan, for one -- *waves* --

    ...

But it might be fun to compile a list of all the "no-no's" that the org has against our personal freedom to dress ourselves any other way than the bOrg-approved 1950's look.

It depends on the hall. And the assholes running it.

In the 90's I got crap for wearing a purple "zoot suit". Was really maroon.

More recently a year or two ago I got mocked for wearing lapel pin/flower. Now everyone and their brother is wearing one.

Having a shaved head, I had one good friends elder father tell me, you wouldn't get used in our hall no way no how like that, and I also took crap for it in my own hall.

had some bro's that liked to grow their sideburns as long as they could, not sure why, but they would constantly get harassed.

Baggy shorts, flip-flop sandals, tennis shoes, and grubby T-shirts.

Some even slide into the pews carrying coffee in plastic foam containers

Just a few of things I was counseled for:

too short of skirt - knee length

too long of skirt - ankle length

wearing shorts (modest knee level) and tank top (also modest) while volunteering to mow KH lawn in 90 degree weather.

having a best friend (everyone is suppose to be your brother or sister - no favorites)

working at age 15 to support my family (after father was DF'ed and left us destitute). I was working more hours than supposedly legal in our state. I had already graduated high school because I was home-schooled. No one cared that we were on the edge of homelessness and my baby brothers needed food to eat.
