I am partial to Islay singles, however, in my opinion, the king of all whiskeys is MaCallan 18yr.
I have a wide variety of bourbons I drink more often the scotch whisky, but my #1 of all time, MaCallan 18

I used to like a nice peaty whiskey, Talisker etc. I'm now gravitating towards the eastern ones, Tomatin, as mentioned up there, is a beaut.

Drink whatever tastes good to you. That's really all there is to it. The snobbery means bugger all.
I typically prefer single malts just because they're a little more interesting to me - you can taste the particulars of what went into it more clearly vs having a blend that's targeting a specific taste profile.

Certainly all worth a try, right? Back in the day, I liked Talisker and the Islay singles as mentioned by FMF, but to be honest, I have nothing agains the better blends.
