My Father has brandished me with the "APOSTATE" word for talking about the BIBLE!

So after three years of fading, my elder Father has never really asked why we have chosen to stop attending.

Today, after a mixed discussion, he starts talking about the "solution to all the world problems" and says "I don't know what you NOW believe, but I believe Gods Kingdom will fix everything" I let the comment go, and didn't respond.

Then he goes on about the video "remember the wife of Lot" because he just came from the convention last weekend. "Don't get caught up in this system...blah blah"

I couldn't help myself, and said one thing "Dad, that video failed to show the next chapter of that account. It didn't show anything about how Lot, a "righteous man" had sex with his two virgin daughters! How odd? Wonder why that awkward part was neglected?"

He responded by shutting down the conversation and saying "your apostasy has clearly gone too far. I will NOT allow you to subvert my faith! This conversation is over!"

So it seems that even talking about the bible itself, or pointing out the uncomfortable parts it contains, is seen by witnesses as an attack, or as persecution by apostates

Super facepalm moment I would have added the solution to mankind's problems is to kill off mankind

    What he really said is:

Even your single comment might be enough to make me realize my faith is baseless. I'm afraid what would happen next. So shut up! LALALALALALALALALALALALA

    Yes Anders!

I got that distinct impression. He just didn't want to hear anything except positive praise for the convention drama or the bible or the society. Anything that deviated from that is "apostasy" and "negativity"

    Good response stuck.

Sadly, most of the time it doesn't matter. I've been there...like most of us have...and just voiced the company lines like your dad.

Don't give up! it would be hard for him to not respond like you did, but you never know that what you said might just stay in his subconscious for the next time the Bible reading rolls around to that part of the Bible.

Don't be like Lot's wife...linstead, let's all be like Lot who's life was spared.

You: So Dad....what ever happened to the children that Lot fathered by his two daughters. How was it for them growing up having to explain to everyone that their grandfather was also their father. What happened to the two daughters who were unwed mothers in a time and place where such a thing was the woman's fault. Did they ever find husbands willing to face that stigma and take on their inbred children?

He responded by shutting down the conversation and saying "your apostasy has clearly gone too far. I will NOT allow you to subvert my faith! This conversation is over!"

How come you find it faith strengthening to hear the first part of the story but thinking about the rest of the story might be enough to subvert your faith?

I am so sorry to hear about that. I have the same issue with my uber JW elder brother.

I would point out the very obvious distructive problems with the WTS and he would 'blah, blah, blah, look at the fruits'

OK, let's look at the fruits. What fruits?

'blah, blah, blah we're the only ones going door to door and restoring God's true name"

OK, that's works, not fruits. Blessed works produce good fruits. What are the fruits?

    Silence.....

He was totally dumbfounded by works not being fruits...sad

WTS works produce no fruits what so ever it seems, but people [like my brother] who have been manipulated will not see that unfortunately.

Stucky - He responded by shutting down the conversation and saying "your apostasy has clearly gone too far. I will NOT allow you to subvert my faith! This conversation is over!"

    Difficult for you.

That thing that if it really is the 'truth(tm)' it'll stand up to any criticism.

slapping the label 'apostate(tm)' on you negates any further reason for talking to you.
