In a statement the organisation said "any suggestion that Jehovah's Witnesses covered up child abuse was absolutely false".
We all know what utter BS this is.
It said victims and their parents had "the absolute right to report the matter to the governmental authorities" and reporting so was "not contingent on the number of witnesses to the offence".
We also, all know that having the 'right' to report it and actually being told to report it are very different things.
In the jobo world, how many times were we told 'not to bring reproach on Jehovah and his organisation(tm)?
Yes. You may have the right to report it.......just you bloody report it and see what happens. The terrible unwritten rules come into play.
'2 witness rule(tm)' or not................REPORT IT TO THE POLICE!

freddo: I believe - but cannot prove - there is a reported case in Ireland only this year where elders were removed (soundness of mind was the charge can you believe?) because they went to the authorities and what they knew came from either elders "investigations" or judicial records.
Yeah, I think these are the two threads you need to read (it happened in last year, but got media coverage this year):

This story has really been picked up by a lot of media in the UK - its even gone to the New York Post now - it surprises me if all this secondary coverage is sparked from just one BBC report which has no real new information.
