I would consider some of the elders in my hall genuine Shepherds ( though G men) There are a couple others I would consider robotic/wooden (boring) but OK. Then of course there is the complete knob (Pharisee wannabe) who grinds my wife and I's gears. Every hall seems to have one!!! So how do/did you view the elders in Your hall?

Village Idiot
There was the friendly psychopath who was always eager to disfellowship someone (including me).
There was the nice guy who got disfellowshipped twice for prescription medicine abuse and, later on, for adultery. He said at my judicial committee that if I were in Israel I would be stoned and that I was the greatest hater of Jehovah's people since Nimrod (with reference to my "apostasy"). He also repeated that in his car after he graciously offered to give me a drive home.
There was the aloof one whom I never had any dealings with.
Then there was the young newbie elder who announced my disfellowshipping at the Hall. When he saw me sitting there he flinched.

There were some good men who were like fatherly figure, genuine, and caring. It was visible that the stress on managing KH and all personal problems wore them down and they were overwhelmed. There was also an elder, who was a prisoner during Stalin era. He remained me someone who could be a brutish prison guard, no emotion, no compassion, treating others that they should tough it out. He was wifebeater and abusive to his children. And the rest were just morons. -

My old hall started out having "reasonable" men, one of whom was my father, when i was younger. My father eventually stepped down, due to tons of hypocrasy starting, especially as the "older" gentle elders were put out to pasture, and abunch of new assholes came in from other congs, and bethel.
We, also had the, back rubbing, sugar coating, PSYCHO, who was on a disfellowshipping rampage. Some Elders, who used to kiss his ass, and made like his bullshit was "spiritual", eventually HATED him, once he turned on them, and their family. 4 elders wound up leaving to go to other congs. They had to give announcements, and local needs, about how "bad" that was.
Many, power tripping, HIGHLY JUDGEMENTAL, men. Would compare you to JUDAS, and NOT because you were an apostate, but because you committed fornication, and smoked weed. Would, also, say you would have been stoned for that, back in ancient Isreal. Yeah, and i also would have had 100 wives, slaves, and SEEN Jehovah part thr red sea, too, JERK-OFF.
A few older, elders from Bethel, who thought they were practically Jesus incarnate, and expected you to kiss their ass, because they were on the "writing committee", or did jail time when they were 18 for not going to war, PUSSY was probably SCARED.
Elders who used to condemn EVERYTHING the teenagers were doing, and that we were "animals", while their 6 year old children were PERFECT, until they became teenagers, and now THEY are REAL ANIMALS, KARMAS a bitch aint it.
The PO would blame the "poor spirit" of the congregation, on YOU, and then after YOU are gone thru DF ing, the congregation does even WORSE, and the Elder body is splintered. PO would never apologize, or take responsibility for THEIR actions as the HEAD.
Honestly, and this is really the truth, some of the WORST human beings i have EVER known, were the Elders i grew up knowing, up until my early 20's when i left, and i have worked with LAWYERS, and CRIMINALS. Right now, in my life, i have over 300 business accounts, and deal with over a 1000 employees and owners, within these accounts, on a monthly basis, and NONE of these "worldly" people, even come close to being as EVIL as most of the elders i have known. In my second "business", as a landlord, i rent to all types of people, of all economic levels, and races, and neighborhoods, and have yet to find bigger scumbags than the elders i have known, and i HAVE been "beat" on rent.
Some of these "men" have made the biggest impression on my life, in such a negative way, and they were supposed to be the "shepards" of the organization. Myself, now being the man i am today, could never bring myself to treat another person the way they have treated others, including myself, and i never have claimed to be "guided" by "holy spirit".

I would catagrise the elders in my " former" congregation as wolves. Whilst the elders were the dominant leaders, the congregation was actuallya pack of wolves, and co-operation between wolves within the pack was apparent. And when the weak were hunted down and hounded out of the congregation, another was soon found to be hunted down.
It should be noted the dominant leaders in the pack would never try to lower themselfs to a compassionate level and this spirit was passed on throughout the congregation. As generally being a witnesses is all about image and superficiality, I think describing them as wolves in sheeps clothing is an astute and fair observation.

VI, Kaik, Dunedin and TR. The experiences and points you made are really interesting. The point about older kindlier more compassionate elders having to make way for younger company men who follow the Talmud to the letter. Also TR, the point you made about the weak being hounded out was really interesting. I personally experienced this in my old hall. Having tried to make the effort to return after a long fade, the elders purposely avoided me, not allowing me to answer or go out in field service for over a year. It was plainly obvious my face no longer fitted in that hall and they wanted me out. It was a very unloving hall led by a control freak. This clearly is a tactic some elder bodies use to squeeze out the ones they simply don't like; to keep their precious clique like halls Talmudically perfectly clean. -

I recall two seriously mentally deficient ones...one happened to marry into a certain family and of course their little girl couldn't be married to a lowly ms....
An ego maniacal company man and his sneering cowboy of a son....nepotism again....
A very nice, intelligent gay guy with a moronica wife and some kids he was decidedly disinterested in....he finally got real and walked away. His embracing his reality and quitting the hypocrisy cold turkey had a profound impact on me and my facing the fact that I was trying to hang onto something I really did not cotton to in the least....
There was my father the drunken one who never went in field service but loved the teaching aspect and platform presence....
So many....the narcissist covering up the pedophile....from my childhood the two uptight nasty ones who when I was a dumb kid trying to Pioneer likened me to the 24000 Israelites who got swallowed up by the earthquake for sexual sins with neighboring pagans....this because elder #1 had a daughter my age who had been at it with some bum who later she married out of "truth" and subsequently they made him an elder too...very despicable dude....and my big sin was that my knees showed under some of my skirts......
This isn't even a sampling of so so many ..... There were some that meant well...but power corrupts...and most of these guys were just on a power trip...whatever floated their boat.
