Why Was WT OK with Blood Transfusions for over 65 Years Before Banning?

’Cause Rutherford had cancer, and that treatment involves transfusions, if I’m not mistaken.

    @Vidiot,

Wow! Wouldn't it be great if we could prove Rutherford took blood transfusions?

Honestly, I don’t think the loyalist rank-and-file would give a shit.

    Ancient history.

    However…

….if it could be proven that the current GB were, say, having regular cocaine-and-viagra-fueled call-girl orgies on giant beds of laundered cash, it’d be a different story.

    Maybe.

    😏

Note: I don’t think they are. Sorry to get your hopes up.

A good question I saw once is, "Is the symbol of life more important than life itself?"

As my mom had it in her research notes, two Witness doctors in Arizona had a Witness patient that refused blood based on Acts 15:29. The wrote to the Society hoping for an answer that would encourage their patient to take a needed blood transfusion. The Society's response was that Christians should not take blood; the 1945 blood articles followed. Rejection of blood transfusion was reflexive, a response to outside question. In this the Society followed the example set in 1935 over flag salute where a letter from a young person prompted a review of the matter.

I also suspect that back when the Org’s blood prohibition was being cobbled together, there were some WT higher-ups who were quietly bigoted (there’s some anecdotal evidence Rutherford was antisemitic, and if that’s true, he couldn’t have been the only one)…

…and the prospect of receiving a transfusion from a donor of another race secretly freaked them out.

    I could be wrong.

"wouldn't be surprised if Rutherford was drinking blood in the video clip"

Somewhat off topic, but brought back to memory by this sentence: there's a YouTube clip where Kenneth Copeland seems to drink his own blood at communion.

On Rutherford and transfusions: he had rectal cancer and may have needed operations. The blood thing was Franz's hobby horse, but wouldn't have gone anywhere while Rutherford was possibly needing transfusions. Rutherford probably didn't have any regard for Franz and his ideas anyway, because he himself was the theologian, and didn't need any of Franz's weird ideas. By 1945 Rutherford was dead, Knorr was president and was willing to allow his strange little buddy Franz to work on the theology, weird ideas and all, while Knorr worked on the business side.*

Farkel wrote a lot of stuff about Rutherford. He was amused that a cancerous asshole like Rutherford died of cancer of asshole.

*The foregoing paragraph is recollection of speculation that was going around about two decades ago.
