Brooklyn Heights’ legendary Hotel Bossert, which for three decades was closed to the public while the Jehovah’s Witnesses owned it, will reopen soon.

The Brooklyn Eagle has published this piece of news on multiple occasions in the last five years — as well as numerous stories about start-date delays.

This time, it looks like the relaunch of the Waldorf-Astoria of Brooklyn, as it was known, might really happen. Read More:

talking about the so-called " wt complete restoration work": Not a complete restoration—they put a dropped ceiling in the ballroom, turned it into a dining room for their workers. When the renovations were under way, I looked in, saw the ceiling had been stripped back to the joists.

Wt was very active having brothers 'volunteer' their god-dedicated time to do real estate enhancement work/ You could sense that these Bethelites sensed something was wrong with that, showed on their faces, working for wt shadow companies.

apparently this was not the NJ theater.

To walk back into that building someday will be surreal.

The number of nights i slept there, meals eaten there, friends met in the lobby.....geeeze

We stayed there on a Bethel visit years ago. Even then it was a very impressive building.

That picture of the rooftop bar brought back some memories. I went there several times for parties hosted by several bethelites I knew -- used to be a fav spot for their parties. At that time of course it was not a bar, just a party room. The view was outstanding. There was a big piano in the room, which was never played. One of the interesting things about those gatherings or parties, is that they always had a brother offer a prayer before, where i distinctly remember emphasis on conduct, lest anybody get too wild.

My home for 8 months, second floor. I still remember the moments our friend Jean the french commuter, a painter who always drank a coffee in our room after lunch, would play the piano for 5 minutes.

We stayed in the Bossert once before the Society purchased it and remodeled it. This was back around '76 or so. It was a functioning hotel, but a bit of a seedy place at that time.

I remember a brother I knew was an electrician and sent to the basement of the Bossert when it was being renovated. He had to replace the breaker box (?) but he was standing in water up to his knees. He wondered what spirit-directed fool sent him down there. Needless to say, he waited until the water was gone.
