Time for a Negotiated Settlement?

    Surely it is?

The coalition has the entire country overun...with just a few principal cities in the control of Iraqis. The coalition should be able to determine what WMD exist. I am quite sure Saddam does not have any factories in Baghdad. They would be in out of the way places so as to evade detection, you would think. Problem is, I don't think there are any factories, but anyway time will tell.

But surely you can work out a deal now. I cannot tolerate any more missile attacks on the cities. There is not much excuse for same..save that the coalition are too scared to go into those cities without the comfort of knowing they have levelled everything. Its going to take too long, cost too much money, and kill too many innocent people, so cutting a deal is worth considering.

I think it will happen. Why not sooner than later? Hasn't Bush had enough fun yet?

they demand unconditional surrender...and they could have negotiated from the very beginning.

sure, in fact, the deal is already on the table. in order for saddam to hold up his end of the bargain, he just needs to step down, and take the rest of the regime with him. pretty simple negotiations.

"...and they could have negotiated from the very beginning."

Now that was one of the most brilliant remarks I've seen in a long time. We, the UN, and everyone else who could draw breath attempted to reach a negotiated settlement for months. Not to mention the negotiating that has been going on for the last 12 years.

Not quite the sharpest knife in the drawer, huh?

Yea, last time we were fifty miles from Bagdad in 1991, Saddam signed a cease fire agreement and then for the last 12 yeas gave the world the finger........No peace deal with the Devil!

Well I can't think of too many wars that haven't end by way of a negotiation. as far as changing the regime etc. It may not happen. i can't see the US winning this one. Baghdad has got 6 million inhabitants. You are going to need a big army to battle it. Most would prefer the 'devil they know' to the devil they dont know...Bush.

They are not going to enjoy street to street warfare where they cannot hide behind their B52s. If you can't win, a deal is good.

Hey, ThiChi, if there is no peace, send the troops into Baghdad and get the body bags ready. Depends how much you value life, i guess.

Saddam has killed more innocent people than the US ever will in this war no matter how long it lasts. He will continue to do so unless something is done. If you truely valued human life, you would support a regime change in Iraq. The only way that is going to happen is by force. Negotiating with Saddam is an exercise in futility.
