Would you be able to kill?

How would you feel if you had to go to war and kill people? Would your spiritual background stop you from doing this, or would you see this as a patriotic thing to do?

I think the only time I could do this was if the GB was lined up....you know....in a firing squad type scenario.

Could I go to war? I don't think I could because I'm a coward. I also could not live with killing the innocent even though it's inevitable.

War is an unfortunate aspect of human existence whose reality I have come to accept more since leaving JW's.

As to whether or not I could kill, people who find themselves in survival situations do all kinds of crazy things, such as drinking pee, eating live insects, etc., I suppose being in a war might be similar. If I had a M-16 in my hand and another person had their M-16 pointed at me, yes I'd probably shoot.

Being the kind, gentle creature that I am No, I would not be able to go to war and kill others. It goes against everything that I am.

Having said that, however, if I felt someone was a threat to my life, or the lives of my children or someone else I love, my momma bear instincts would kick in and they'd leave with some very serious damage (if they didn't leave in a body bag).

For my country, yes. Why? Because this isn't a perfect world, and I'm not perfect. I'm not bloodthirsty, but if it means my safety and protecting people in this country, then by george I'll do it.

Yeah, I think I could. If I had the training, and the conditioning, and whatnot. It would be a rough experience, but I'd do it for my country.

Societies, cultures, countries, even neighborhoods have the right to protect themselves. If the group validated the killing for the protection of our rights, our lives, the lives of our children and our families, yes I would kill for their protection.

Killing one on one validated by no one, unless in self-defense, is murder in my mind. Like killing in order to steal someone's money. No good.

I totally agree with Scully. When you enlist in the service of your country you must go and do what they tell you or suffer the consequences. Its a difficult choice to make for this country's young people who have to weigh the benefits gained from enlistment against the tasks they must perform. I support their individual decisions whatever they may be.

However....if someone chooses to invade my space with the thought of doing harm to me and mine; the local undertaker will be wiping their sorry a$$. Self preservation is still the first law of nature.

LOL @ me, whose response is the same as Scully's and Warrigal's: Just TRY to hurt my children or others that I love and cherish, Mister, and I won't think twice about causing bodily harm (including death)!

Also, if I were personally threatened, I think I could kill.

Or at least I would TRY to kill, since I'm not trained with weapons. That being the case, I'd probably attempt to wound my assailant, you know, to stop him/her in his/her tracks, and wind up killing him/her anyway with my poor aim!

    How about you, JH?
