Rebel......Hmmm, not a bad analogy of me , just a couple of things though, critisism of JWs is fine by me, they do put themselves in the firing line, so I guess they should expect to get shot at, especially on a forum like this full of mainly ex-jws. The only time I do get a bit ruffled is on posts such as "shall we picket the K.H or shall we go to the memorial and munch the crackers, drop the wine, stand up and scream... blah blah" These posts wind me up, because in one breath, as I said before, many here like to say how they've moved on to better and greater things now, and how sorry they feel for the "dubs" and that it isn't really the "brain-dead dubs" they have a problem with but rather the old men in Brooklyn/Borg etc...If that is the case attack the org if you think it helps you or others, but don't go harrasing individual JWs, just stay away, like they do you.

Also Rebel, you have to accept that not 100% of everyone will fit into the mould of the mainstream here, ok you've got it up to about 99%, thats not a bad result is it? Just because I'm in that probably less than 1% here, and you can't exactly "box me in" as either a fully fledged apostate, or a zealous devout JW evangaliser, doesn't make my opinion any less valid than yours, but by all means disagree with me, I'm not really as confused/difficult to make out as you think. Yes I might have a sarcastic dig at times, but its very light, and still within that 1% here!! don't get so pissed by it. Does it bother you that much?!! And I will be a good JW .......next year.

I agree with you regarding picketing the KH etc etc. That's not something I would do either. I don't want to go to the KH again and that includes not going to cause trouble. I have nothing against the JWs themselves - there are some really nice people in my old KH and I am fond of many of them. I guess I just don't like the ones in authority because they are the ones that have caused me so much grief. And I would never harass individual JWs, not even elders that have gone out of their way to make me feel like a piece of garbage. That's just not me.

One thing I will say, as I pointed out to you on another thread, be careful if you are not living a life that the WTS would approve of. They can be really vindictive and can hurt you. Don't think that you are immune to what they can do. If you are having a good time now and don't want to attend meetings, that is your affair and should be no concern of theirs. You come across as a really nice, mild person who isn't easily ruffled or upset. I just hope you are not ever on the receiving end of their 'loving' counsel - they can really hurt - believe me!

Thanks Rebel for the friendly warning. I wouldn't for one minute expect to be "immune" from any "retribution" (is that the right word?!) that the organisation would make against me. You lives your life, you takes your chances, a cliche I know. Sometimes I can't even see beyond next week let alone next year in what or where I will eventually wind up, but in the mean time I'll stay happily "messed up!"

What annoys me is somebody who hasn't been active in the org for 10 years coming on this forum defending JW's, but at the same time refusing to discuss specific doctrinal points.

It's so easy to be sentimental about something that is long past.

I'm begging you Scooby, go back, become active (i.e. 5 meetings a week, field service, studying for meetings, theocratic ministry school, assembly parking lot duty, carrying a blood card, shunning DF'd people, limiting association primarily to JW's, no cursing, no saying "bless you" to somebody who just sneezed, THE WHOLE JW 9 YARDS) for a couple of years. Then come back & we'll see if your feelings about Watchtower-world have changed. We'll see if you still feel like telling us to "lighten up" when we dog both JWism and its (mostly) brain-dead adherents.

And in a way you made my point. You constantly marvel at the "negativity" of this board (that's pretty much all you ever have to say), and yet you haven't been active in 10 years. That's why I say, go back for a couple of years and see if the negativity is warranted. The opinions of somebody who hasn't been involved in the cult for 10 years are meaningless. I'm guessing you're around 30 or so. Go back and experience the cult as a thinking adult and see if things are as rosy as you remember them.

Dan the Man, You are right! It's the typical non answer. When persons never give anything but a glib response, it speaks volumes. In Scooby's case, he appears to be quite content in quasi-defending the WT. while staying away from it...Not a bad gig. That's why he can't be taken too seriously.

Have a look again, and try and get out of the "all in the same blind mindset" name calling that you say you escaped from. You haven't come that far, if it doesn't fit what you feel, STILL you shun and ridicule/ think about it. If you can't, don't bother answering my posts.....its that simple on this forum!

Scooby, you hit and run. You come back with smart answers and try to be coy. It doesn't work here. Try to give more than a one-liner when you're being questioned. I think you're a good guy. But I think that you have to think about the criticisms that you get and realize that no one's trying to pick on you. I mean that, Scooby. You can't expect to have it both ways all the time.
