So the governing body is NOT inspired...are they still "spirit directed"?

Okay there has been lots of buzz about the Feb 2017 WT where they say the governing body is NOT inspired NOR infallible.

Yet, they are still using the baptism questions. The second one being... "Do you understand that your dedication and baptism identify you as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in association with God’s spirit-directed
    organization?"

It kind of seems like the same thing to me.

Inspiration is defined as the process of being mentally stimulated to do or feel something, especially to do something creative.

Wouldn't the holy spirit directing things as in "spirit directed" be inspiration?

There can be no doubt that the wt organisation has an esprit de corps, an elan, and that David Splane's remark "we like that idea" borders on delight of having discovered the overlapping bright new light, but unlike Einstein, who was walking elated at the thought about the stopping church clock as he surfed light, -- wt's spirit direction does not translate into truth.

At this point in the game, with most members being heavily mind conditioned, the Org can say they magically grow wings and take spiritual excursions at night and consult with Jehovah and Jesus, and the members will accept it as truth.

The very first step to deprogramming members is to break through the wall that surrounds their mind.

That is the perfect kind of "sincere" question to ask. Just sound "confused". Wowzers! I don't understand the difference. Can you please explain it to me? [dumb look]

IMHO it is even worse for them to say that they are spirit directed.

To direct: control the operations of; manage or govern.

To inspire: fill (someone) with the urge or ability to do or feel something, especially to do something creative.

When someone inspires you, you can still choose not to act on the inspiration. However, if they claim that their organization is directed by holy spirit then this leaves no room for error. It would mean that everything Watchtower does/says is controlled/governed by holy spirit. Hence, any error by Watchtower would equate to an error by the holy spirit.

I agree evilApostate , the Holy Spirit cant be wrong or lie can it ? So the religion obviously cant be spirit directed with their admission they are neither inspired or infallible.

    Great thread!

    And great comment evilApostate!

Yes, either they speak for God or they don't. If they don't, then why should witnesses base their EVERY life decision on the directions of the GB?

If they do speak for God, then God has a terrible habit of making mistakes....

They don't have to be inspired - because they have the same status as Jesus Christ!

Watchtower January 2017, page 28, par. 19 - "As we follow their direction, (the G.B.) therefore, we follow our Leader, Jesus."

By extension therefore, Jesus Christ would prophesy wrong dates for Armageddon, would shield paedophiles from the "superior authorities", and would continually reverse accepted doctrines!

There's nothing like a faithful & discreet slave! And they are nothing like one.

Spirit directed and inspired are the same thing...if the GB are wrong they cannot be directed by God or his spirit.

I can't see how you cannot be inspired but directed by God and yet still err in doctrines and policies.
