Try to get a copy of Ray Franz's book Crisis of Conscience.
Ray was Governing Body member who got disfellowshipped for what he revealed about the organization, so his book is considered "apostate literature."
Ray maintained his faith in God, Christ, and the Bible but discovered that the WT organization was far different than what it claims.
It is not an angry book at all, just factual.

Hi and welcome.
You're braver than you know.
I too, am a child of the 80's. baptized at 17 in 1991
pioneered for a few years right after H.S.
the 1914 generation was the biggest sign that the end was 'just around the corner' there was no way that the system would last 10-20 more years, yeah...well ..here we are
I was feeling what you're feeling now about a year ago.
I couldn't believe what I was reading, how could I have been so blind!?
keep researching, keep using your critical thinking skills ..you will be ok
we'll be here for you to help you thru the awaking process...

Welcome Confused and Angry. I remember when I first realized the Jehovah's Witnesses did not have "the truth". It was very shocking. I was angry too. There was no one that I could talk to at that time. That was before the internet. Now there is so much information available. (pace yourself as it can be overwhelming at first) Also this forum is a wonderful place to meet others that have or are in the process of leaving this organization. I no longer feel alone as an ex-jw. Each person's journey out is different. Decide for yourself what is best for you.

Armageddon is not just around the corner! They said that when I was in my teens and that was nearly 50 years ago. You have the rest of your own life, to plan, to retire, to explore without the witness blinders. Take your time, the search function on this site has sooo much information. Some of the older posts are wonderful; check out Amazing's posts about bringing his family out of that mess. He used family study time to ask questions and lead them slowly to logic (of all things).
Welcome to a long journey.

Confusedandangry:
You are not alone. Many of us have lost decades of our life, and then our support system.
This is a deep rabbit whole. But congratulations on waking up…it might be painful in the short while, but inevitably you will be happier in long run.
It’s hard not to shout this stuff from the rooftops, but talking to indoctrinated friends and family is like diffusing a bomb strapped to their chest. If you pull the wrong wire, the bomb can never unexplode.
BTW…whose idea was it to watch Leah’s series? Yours or your husbands? If it was his, may it be he is awake and attempting to reach you?

Welcome! You are beginning a very important process in your life. At least now, you can see.
This forum helped me a ton when I left (and started life over) 10 years ago, and I know you'll find that same support for yourself. In fact, as you go forward, this forum may be off immense help and comfort.
You are rare. I wish you the best.

Confusedandangry, what you are feeling is normal. You are normal. You are entitled to feel like you do. Your feelings are entirely justifiable. Don't ever, ever feel like you are to blame or that there is something wrong with you. To the contrary, there is something very wrong with the organization to which we have all once belonged.
I was in your position about 12 years ago. Here's what helped: I read everything I could, particularly in the area of credible, authoritative research on evolution, ancient history, ancient humans, so-called "flood" geology, the history of the earth and of Jehovah's Witnesses. I also read Crisis of Conscience, which should be on the top of your list. Franz is a gentle, insightful, articulate writer who speaks absolute truth. I know enough from first hand experience about the inner workings of Bethel and everything he says is consistent with what I have seen.
Hang out here! You are among people who have experienced what you are going through. And survived! There's a really great life out there, free from the craziness. You can make it.

Welcome to the Forum ConfusedandangryOne thing thing you probably noticed in similarities with Scientology and the JWS is that they both lure people into their organizations by the use of literature as a means toward psychological entrapment.
Once your involved (studying) and they know your mentally engaged with their self devised programing, the organization then exploits you for labor and money to further support the organization all the while vigorously oppressing any knowledge that might contravene " their information ".
Its a game of psychological entrancement implemented by using tactics of fear, exploitation of peoples insecurities and ignorance on various matters.
Jehovah god never owned and operated a publishing house in Brooklyn New York, but some opportunistic men seeking their own compensating power, control and money did.
If your planing on leaving this religious cult and all of its mind controlling aspect, I would personally do so in a slow fading fashion.
If queried by other JWS (Elders) as to why do not go into details unless you don't care about ever seeing these people again for the WTS has programmed to stay away or shun you with fearful disdain .....see there's that psychological control again.
One other thing to note is that both organizations proclaim that people can not live a wholesome and happy life without their organization's control or intervention and guidance, this is a corrupt false claim in itself, it is possible but it does force people to take their life and direction with responsibility not only toward themselves but toward others whom your socially involved with.
