I don't get the hinge, it looks like a botch job. I'm generally impressed with it all, but that hinge!!?? They could have done a better job than that.

Apparently, it's all about adjusting the center of gravity so the laptop doesn't tip back. It allowed them to shave off some weight.

Without it the base would need to be heavier (or the screen / tablet lighter which = lower battery life).

It's actually growing on me but my concern would be how it survives in a bag or backpack - if it's squashed a little will it break? Something that folds completely flat seems like it should be a bit more robust.

You have to give them kudos for innovation though. GPU in the base and dynamic switching is a neat idea. Power and performance + portability and battery life - choose what you need in a single device.

Looks interesting Simon will check it out, I'm also looking into the new Dell XPS 15 with touch screen.

There have been good reviews of the XPS 13 which game out a few months ago.

My laptop is getting old and I have been looking at the Surface Pro. Can you list what the ideal version and accessories you suggest.

Yes, I have not loaded Windows 10 yet waiting for others to find the problems. Thanks for your suggestions.

The latest Surface Pro 4 will be a better buy from last years with substantial upgrades.

I would look at getting the ones with a i5 cpu,, 8 GB ram and at least 256 GB. HD.

The Dell XPS 13 or XPS 15 would be another good choice.

It really depends what you want to use it for. If it's just regular browsing / email / documents then the lowest spec m3 is probably plenty and is still faster than previous models (it's the latest Intel Skylake processor). It's also fanless and likely to have better battery life (but will need full reviews to come out to say for sure).

You only need the higher specs if you need an all-in-one-machine that can also do more demanding tasks such as games, video encoding, 3d modelling etc..

It's probably worth bumping up to the i5 for the extra power given the cost to future-proof things a little (given devices now are non-upgradable) and 8Gb RAM is worth having for a Windows machine. Storage space depends on what you do - video and games will take more space than docs especially if you work on things in the cloud so yes, the 256GB SSD is a good choice.

My gripe about Microsoft is, if you buy a new computer you can have the latest edition of Microsoft Office loaded on to it of course, it cost $89, but Microsoft will now charge you yearly to use Microsoft Office, don't they have enough money ? I'm glad I still have the version of Office I got when I purchased my laptop in either 2006 or 2007, I recently had new hard drive installed which sets it back to brand new, so I just had my old version of Office loaded on again. If I buy a new laptop I'm going to use my old version for sure instead of paying Microsoft 90 dollars a year, plus you have to pay for Norton Security as well !

I noticed that the latest versions of Samsung tablets now have Microsoft Office loaded on to them. wonder if you'll get a yearly charge for it being on a tablet as well ?

On the latest Microsoft Surface Pro 4 they are an option you have to pay for them, if they load a trial version , you can simply remove it and install an older version.

Here's a link to show what I'm referring to.

I can't help but think though, that if this was an Apple or a Tesla product the hinge would do that, and it would close flush ;)

I have been a diehard MS fan for a very long time! I used to go to MS events all the time. The one this week has to be their best one of all times! They used to get so into the heavy technical info, that most people at the events, were so bored. I remember setting watching the bored press types, and just normal people, thing they really should do two part events! One just for the true techies, who want to know all the specific, of how, and why. Them the one just for the product introductions, and demonstrations, with just a dusting of the spec's.

I still love the techies, geeky stuff, but that was a neat bunch of rabbits, MS pulled out of the Hat! I wish I could have gone!

I have used the Lumia Windows phones ever since they first came out, and I just love them! I want the Lumia 950XL, but will keep my Lumua 1520 for now, it's still a heavy hitter, and has an beyound Awesome camera! I also have a Lumia 640, I use when I am working!

    Long Live MS!
