Lurkers - Confused

I am a newbie and apparently very naive.

I in reading different threads, lurkers have been mentioned. My initial thought was "lurking" meant people like me reading for awhile and eventually posting.

Are the forums actively read by JW's to find out who people are just to DF them? I read several post by SwordofJah... he is just someone who is still lost/maybe he will wake up one day.

But, are JW's now so afraid of "us" that have left that they actively gather info and "hunt people down" to DF or DA them?

I guess I really did not think of this part when i began posting. I was so excited when I found the site all I could think of was.... I'm not alone, I'm not as screwed up as I thought I was.

Anyway back to the "newbie" question - is this or has this actually happened?

Lurkers? to be sure there are 'spies' here - just ask hippikon.

cheeses - not one for lurking. Just get in there b***s and all.

There is one case which I know of in which on poster here, when asked to meet with elders, was shown a printout from this site, and was then accused of posting here. So, it does happen. Some people here are rightly concerned about the medieval-style repercussions should they be found out.

Hay rocketman, so i guess it's ok for the elders to look at the "poison" that apostates put out but wrong if a ordinary member does it? Man some of these rules are so wierd!

Some say that this has happened to them and will no doubt post their experience. It has been said that some JW's infiltrated the site, blended in and became trusted, then gathered information (proof of sin ??), and then "turned in" the unsuspecting JW on the fringe, which ended with commitee meeting and punnishment or discipline.

Personally, I think this is very deceitful and a form of serious dishonesty and yes, lying. Also, possibly a form of stalking. But because it is done "publicly" and openly, I doubt anything could be done about it in a legal way. I would have to wonder seriously what would motivate an active JW to purposely turn on his fellow human being in such a way, and why anyone would "listen" to a busybody tattletail. (Maybe they even count being on the forum as service time.)

It is engrained in them that these things are necessary to keep the congregation clean, and that turning these people in is the "loving thing to do". I wouldn't put it past a dedicated Pioneer to build up "time" in this manner.

cheeses 'fesses up - I even keep countin' time when I occasionally skip over to some of those 'rude' sites. Just looking for more souls I might be able to save.

Real 'lurkers' are just people who read but don't post. Maybe they just haven't seen anything they feel srtongly enough about to respond to or are concerned about their privacy. It's normal to find people lurk for a while before thy decide to start posting.

I've tried to make the site as secure as I can so no one's personal identity can be revealed unless they want it to.

Simon, do you have stats on how many times the whole site gets hit by non-members?

    Ballistic,

I was about to give a witty reply about how I could give you stats on how many non-members could do searches here, but I've decided not to.

    Englishman.
