The WTS intentionally brainwashes people into thinking their teachings, organization and bible interpretations are the closest at being the most righteous of all Christian based faiths.
Add in the assumption that the controls to social behavior instituted by the WTS. are totally inline and correct through their own bible interpretation.
Add in the proclamation that Jehovah has exclusively chosen their organization and you have full fledged vehicles to mentally control people.

Doesn't surprise me.
The WTS itself regularly implies that anyone who doesn't want to be a Jehovah's Witness ("worldlings" or XJWs) are so because deep down, they want to be Godless sinners.
In fact, my JW elder (but nevertheless very nice) Dad used to say that most of the "The World" actually knew that JW's had "The Truth", but they didn't want to accept it for - more or less - that reason.

When I was in the early days of my ‘fade’ and got the usual cards saying ‘we miss you’, I got a phone call from one of the pioSneers..By the way, I was done with the Witnesses for several reasons and my ‘fade’ was planned.
She was probably counting time. But, one of the things she said was that ‘people know it’s the truth but don’t want it’. I said ‘They don’t believe it’..Don’t know if she was hearing me when I said that.
Maybe years ago there might have been people ‘out’ who might have believed it was ‘truth’. But now with the internet and the mountains of information about the JW religion available, I don’t believe this is the case.
People are staying in the religion (voluntarily or involuntarily) for friends and family and business connections, IMO.

I always thought it was a point of interest that the elders do things "as a body." As though, after praying on a matter and discussing it as wise men among fools, no single man could "stumble" a brother in the congregation. I believed that this was the best way and 99% infallible. Now I realize that groups of men are very susceptible to wrong thinking and following the "alpha" or the most strong-minded among them.
