What is Armageddon?

That thread about "will you be protected?" Promted me to write this. We have been doing research on Estacolgy (sp?) and Revelation, and I though this was interesting.

Armageddon is not, will not, and cannot come! Why? What is Armageddon? Turn with me in your Bible please to Rev 16:16 (hahah sorry folks but I couldn't resist that one, please keep reading though)"and they gatherd them together to a place that is called in Hebrew Harmageddon."

Ok so WHAT is Armageddon??? It is a PLACE!!! IT's where the armies woud meet to fight, "the battle of the Great Day", it's NOT THE NAME OF THE BATTLE!!! It's the place for the reconnoitering, of the armies, NOT THE BATTLE!!!

So Armageddon is a PLACE, not an EVENT!!

Interestingly Titus gatherd all his armies in Meggedo (Armageddon) before his destruction of Jerusalem in 70ce. More on that later!

Well done Venice! I've had a historicist bent for a long time now (the assumption that all prophecied events happened soon after their prediction) the "revelation" that Titus gathered his armies at Megiddo helps strengthen that belief even more. After all, there are parts of Revelation which refer to past and present, as well as future and it is not always easy to tell which is which.

I also note that your detractor has tried to start a new thread to take away attention from this post; it seems my theory that he only posts to a thread if he can get in early is correct. It also shows he's got no arguments to bring to you in this thread. Perhaps this discussion should be continued in this thread rather than in the one he started; there's no need to feed the troll...

Darnit Venice, you had to go and spoil all my plans! I've been selling tickets to the Big A, which is supposed to happen just a stones throw from my cave. I even had a concession stand license from the Meggido Chamber of Commerce and the sole (soul??) proprietorship for taxi service from Haifa through the Plane of Sharon to the grand stands. armageddon is the place the event the apocalypse.

"apocalypse" suggest disaster and distruction, this is not the basic meaning of the biblical word. the greek word "apokalypsis" has the root meaning "to uncover," and thus to cause something to be fully known it is translated by the latin word "revelatio," which means a disclosure, a revelation an apocalpse is ground in the idea that the meaning of events, of human life in general, is hidden from people and that a vision from beyond our world can "remove the veil" of ordinary perception and show the true, underlying meaning of history. the apocalypse of john (also called the book of revelation) contains many versions of disasters but it's purpose is not to show distruction. it's purpose is to see behind the scenes where the real struggle is whether or not one follows jesus ( through temptations, suffering, and even death) or whether one follows the way of the world. in this view history is a contest between good and evil, and everyone must eventually choose sides. Armageddon is not coming like the WTB&TS inc. told you it is Venice, good luck in your search.
