The subject of the `Wagatha Christie" trial investigates the inner workings of the Jehovah's Witnesses. Having grown up within the faith, she explains how the religion failed to support her through sexual abuse and shunned her as a child. Meeting with other former Jehovah's Witnesses, including a victim of child abuse, Rebekah aims to show the world the negative impacts the religion can have on children -

I don’t know, but isn’t her testimony clouded somewhat by the most farcical untruths she told in court in the trial against Rooney’s Mrs? Her story was so bogus the people covering the trail couldn’t understand why she brought the case (at great expense to herself) or why she thought anyone would believe the incredible things she was saying.
* disclaimer - all I know about the trial is what I picked up from the news bulletins on Radio 4, while driving around, and therefore probably wrong. The news presenters at the time seemed to treat it as a bit of fun. One person they interviewed said they could only understand the whole trial as a very expensive gift from Vardy to contribute to ‘the gaiety the nation’ at a difficult time. (I think the Tories were swapping Prime Ministers or something at the same time.)

i havent the slightest interest in football--never watch it---and even less interest in the antics of footballers bimbo wives. But any TV programs giving the watchtower a hard time gets my attention every time.

Stan makes a point, above, that it all adds to the negative publicity on the WTS.
However, I have absolutely zero respect for Rebekah Vardy and her self engineered celebrity status . I would not believe a word she says. My wife purchases a Sunday Mail newspaper ( yes , I know and have told her what a rag that paper is ) In that paper this week was an article by RV about the program which she kept reading out to me …..Frankly, it was a load of old nonsense that any experienced JW would refute. If this stuff is true it seemed more like bad parenting than much real complaint against the Society…
Don’t forget she lost a load of money in that court case ( Jamie must have been mad) She has to get some back somehow……

“shamed” for being sexually abused as a child could play a role in this along with being ostracised by the community after her parents’ divorce,
'trauma distorts reality as well – it sometimes causes us to see things that aren’t necessarily real.
Questions to Consider
In what ways is your trauma distorting your reality, or causing you to see things that aren’t there?
Do you often get into arguments where people say that you are not hearing what they are saying?'

One of the ex-JWs who will be interviewed in the programme is Ali Millar author the the outstanding book - The Last Days: A memoir of faith, desire and freedom.
Ali is a very talented author who is already in the process of finishing her second book - this time a novel. If you haven't read The Last Days yet do yourself a favour and order a copy.

I agree with Cofty, Ali Millar is a wonderful author, her Book though autobiographical is as easy to read as a Novel, and quite difficult to put down ! in places her prose is just beautiful, almost poetic.
Another ex-JW writer of stature is Jodie Chapman , her two Books so far are Novels, but draw heavily on her struggles with life as a J.W. The first Book "Another Life" is a great insight on the power of Love, but shows how Religion can spoil your life, so that you lose your real love perhaps. Her new Novel " Oh Sister" awaits my attention.
