So there's a bill called the Social Security Fairness Act that "Might" help those on Social Security. The Bill is something Trump said he would push for once he become President.Of course there is some RINOS and Democrats who don't want the bill because they still want to fund wars that Americans have no business getting involved.

All the President has to do is signed it "If" he makes it into office.

This could go in effect as soon as next year.

This will be good News for the Governing Body, because now they can say Jehovah provided of the Pioneers who didn't work that much

We will have to wait to see how much and who will benefit, but it looks like a good thing.

It's what Trump wanted, MAGA instead of Make Ukraine Great Again.

We will have to wait and see, so don't go buying a sports car yet. But I'm happy for all you old folks and my parents who will be on Social Security soon.

I don’t know where you live but here in the USA you have had to pay into Social Security. Sorry to tell you, but you don’t get anything if you didn’t work unless your spouse was eligible.

First, a person has to work 10 years just to begin to be eligible. Then they have to work for decades earning a decent wage. That means full time work. Anybody who worked part time would get a minuscule amount nobody could live on. So, those pioneers you mentioned who hardly worked at all wouldn’t get much.

Regarding the Fairness Act: those who worked jobs with a (federal?) pension could not get SS for time they worked on jobs with no pension but who paid some taxes into Social Security. This new bill would enable them to get something from SS in addition to their pension.

And SSI is for somebody who can prove disability.

    Hi LongHairGal

It's true what you say, We're talking about people who worked the required amount to qualify for SS. If a person didn't get the credits they were supposed to in order to qualify for SS, they are cooked. No soup for them.

But if a person did get the credits and didn't put in much money into their fund, they will not get as much as a person who worked 'Normal' .....meaning they weren't the type of people that worked part time to pioneer.

A person who made 10k a year for life, will not get the same amount as a person who made 50k a year for life. So yes, big difference.

This is only if Trump makes it to the Presidency and signs the bill. So it's not written in stone Yet.

I'm sure the Governing Body will take the Credit somehow, just like they took the credit for the food that they distribute to their members during Covid, which was really coming from the Government and not from the GB.

On a side note, DOGE aka Department of Government Efficiency, is planning to crack down on people who abuse the system and get disability checks but are able to work. This would mean that the practice of getting disability from the Gov. and then pioneering won't work anymore because the new rules will specify that if a person is getting disability, that will mean the person will have to be in bed, disabled most of the time to qualify.

If someone is getting disability money and pioneering, and gets caught, they will haul his ass off to prison and he can pioneer there in prison.

In fact, Elon said he was planning on stopping all fund for the homeless. Either they go to a medical facility for help or go to prison, but no funds for them to by drugs.

They are going to crack down on the Lazy!

Yes. I have heard some JWs collect SSI benefits and yet pioneer.👎

But, some people (not just Witnesses) mistakenly think they can get regular SS even if they never worked.

Maybe if some JW with a long life once worked in their earlier years on more than one job and pioneered later in life 🤣 - they could possibly fall into the category of somebody who qualifies under the Fairness Act and they could benefit. But, this is far fetched and this would be an extremely rare JW indeed.

All in all, the religion’s pushing people to pioneer and not work may possibly lead to those who try to get money any way they can.👎

    Yea............IN THEIR DREAMS!

Here is a brief list of things required to get SS, from their official sites
You may be eligible for Social Security
    benefits by earning Social Security
credits when you work in a job and pay
    Social Security taxes.
We base Social Security credits on the
amount of your earnings. We use your
earnings and work history to determine
your eligibility for retirement or disability
benefits or your family’s eligibility for
    survivors benefits. We cannot pay
benefits if you don’t have enough credits.

You know Social Security is not bad actually. In many cases it's more than some pensions from the State or what a private firm provides.

For example, the maximum amount a person can make with Social Security is $58,476 a year, plus Medicare Advantage. Not bad for a person who is retired and has his house paid for. Plus someone like that more than likely has a nice amount in his Savings Accounts spread through different banks and stock.

Those poor pioneers that believed with all their heart were scammed. They could have lived a fairly decent life if they hadn't been taken advantage of their ignorance. That's why I believe all religion is dangerous. It main purpose is to take advantage of the gullible and enrich itself.

I guess we were lucky. I for whatever reason didn't fall for the Watchtower's promise of paradise, and continue to work cause I enjoy it. And you also didn't fall for their fantasy promise.

We made it to the bank!

Yes, I am glad I worked. Not gloating over anybody who was misled into thinking they didn’t have to. I cringe when I think what could have happened to me if I were gullible.

I actually had young Witnesses my age back in the day scoff at me. They felt I should have been doing full time ministry like they were. Even though part of me felt they were having a good time (they were invited everywhere), I couldn’t bring myself to quit my job.

And then…. I saw ALL the older people in the congregation who were collecting SS and pensions. They had obviously been in the workforce and I don’t mean housecleaning either. I also noticed ‘intelligent’ people there found a way and were making money. No offense to anybody, but I observed that people who did housecleaning were mostly younger women who lived with their family.. No way they could pay rent by themselves.. Or, a married woman who did housecleaning to make a little extra money.. DON’T forget she had a husband paying the major bills!

So, I realized to myself that I’d be OUT of my mind if I quit my decent job with benefits and IRA to do housecleaning (manual labor and chemicals) with no benefits.🤣

So, I paid no mind to the JWs and didn’t care what they thought.. They weren’t paying my bills nor would they be supporting me in retirement. Fast forward to now, all those young pioneers have reached senior years mostly unprepared whereas I am. If I were around them now they would surely resent me and expect me to give them $$. My answer would be NO. There you have it.

Social security is not an investment, it is welfare. Although you pay into it proportional to your income, you may not receive accordingly, there is a cap as to what you will get out of it. Illegal immigrants can get social security without work credit (there is a long list of exceptions for immigrants that do not need work credit, recently including the men that evaded their draft in Ukraine but also anyone that had to endure spousal abuse, Haitians, Cubans, etc etc), disabilities, being trafficked - so that includes pretty much anyone except for Canadians.

If you are earning $10,000 or more per year for 20 years, you receive 70 to 80 percent of the Social Security benefits paid for a full work life. Note that you do not have to “work”, being unemployed, Bethelites and special pioneers are often on some kind of “disability”, earning a stipend together with odd jobs, unemployment and state assistance, all counts because from your unemployment/income there is a withholding which at the end of the year (at tax time) is technically negative, it is considered “paying into” and making you eligible for payout.

Yes, those of us paying $1500/month in social security taxes, we are expected to receive $600/month out of it and the others are subsidized by us to the tune of $500-550/month. The thing you don’t have and what people may be confused about is 401k or pensions, you earn that on your own, it has a yield of approx. 180% if you work from a reasonable age (so if you pay into it now for 40 years, you can live very well for the other 40-60 years). In comparison, Social Security will have a net negative investment rate for the average person (you will never get out what you pay in)
