Personally I think it is 1914 and the following " This Generation " doctrine.

This particular doctrine went right against Jesus's own words of " No one knows of the time not even he "

He also admonished his true followers to not set a time upon god's own sacred time .

The leaders of the WTS even back to the late 1800's set a time calculated on their own theology 1874 being the first time set and proclaimed by C T Russell, also proclaiming 1914 would likely be the year of the final day of judgment Armageddon.

All throughout the 20th century the WTS held to this doctrine but was eventually revised of course when it was realized this generation had passed away who saw the events of 1914.

The overlapping generation doctrine which was devised to further uphold 1914 is not supported by the bible either.

The reason why the hundreds of other Christian based faiths didn't say anything about 1914 is because it is not supported in the bible and could be considered apostasy.

Saying the number 19 is followed by the number 2.

Jerusalem fell in 19th year of Nebuchadnezzar. They say the year that followed the 19th year of Nebuchadnezzar was the 2nd year of Nebuchadnezzar. (Dan 2:1)

Oh and saying the number 3 is the number 11 (Dan 1:1).

1914 rests on this twaddle as does the GB's authority.

1914...it just doesn't stand up to biblical, secular and archaelogical facts.

But hey when do JW's care about that.

Since you touched upon 607 BCE Anna I wrote a bit about that on another thread .......

The rightful and intellectually honest explanation to why the JWS are wrong about 607 BCE and 586 is right is because the ancient Hebrews in Jerusalem were forced to be a vassal to Nebuchadnezzar in 605 BCE, the year he started to rule over Babylon from his father and he placed kings in succession in Jerusalem the following years. Zedekiah was the last king who refuted Nebuchadnezzar vassalage so Nebuchadnezzar destroyed Jerusalem including the temple in 586 BCE his 19th year of rule, the bible even states that. So Daniel's prophesy is allegorical or perhaps metaphorical and its not surprising since the number 7 is the sacred number of their god in their mythological expressions. So the actual length of time the Hebrews were held captive in Babylon after the destruction of Jerusalem was approximately 48 years not 70.

To me, their biggest doctrinal mistake is the complete and utter ridicules ideas about the identity of Jesus Christ.

How can you be a Christian organization and not have a freaking clue who Jesus is?

Hi Finkelstein - ever considered that that clay tablets could be faked by poor people digging in Babylon and getting paid good money by some wealthy Europeans? Just a thought. Dates may not be all they are cracked up to be.

The biggest doctrinal mistake is their insistence that "God has an organization and we're it." Everything else flows from there.

Yes, JeffT, the crap all flows from there. In fact, the word organization never appears in the bible. It was only when the Christian congregation got organized, that false doctrine was introduced. It was only when the Israelites nationalized, got land for a country, and insisted on a king, that things went down hill.

They are alluding to the body of Christ though. And I'm guessing its an old idea like the body politic spoken of in Shakespeare.

A body is made up of organs, then they use the word 'organisation' as if this body of people are related by contract/work obligations rather than brotherly love.

Hi Finkelstein - ever considered that that clay tablets could be faked by poor people digging in Babylon ?

Highly unlikely Anna, professional archeologists are trained to spot forgeries. they have techniques and instruments they use to date findings .

After one group analyzes something, then it gets passed onto another professional peer review organization who are again professorial trained archeologists to confirm its legitimacy .

Thats not to say forgeries do not exist but eventually they are spotted and identified.
