hello gcc,
Yeah, assumptions are made when we read other's posts. I doubt any of us have time to read ALL posts by other posters. For instance, have you read ALL my posts? If you have, then you, poor person, have little else to do in your life.
Glad you went to Quotes.....many fine sites to find pertinent information....and up-to-date quotes on New Light. Btw, the WTBTS themselves quote older publications of their own (or scientific views when it helps them) - and we jw's didn't think much about it. If the WTBTS quoted it....it must still be correct insight, eh? And I NEVER heard a jw ask "where did they get that quote....exactly?" Like the WTBTS would write (paraphrasing) "A Catholic woman said she was very upset because the Catholic Church changed their teaching that now Catholics could eat meat on Fridays. 'If they can change that teaching, what else is going to change? How can we have faith with all these changes?" Remember that article? Exactly which Catholic woman said that? The WT writings are littered with inuendos.
The thing you will not get with a JW therapist is an exploration of things you might want to do, but know are wrong. For example, my therapist discussed a few possible courses of action with me and then brought up one I left out. "Why not have an affair?" "Because I know it's wrong." -gcc
The woman jw therapist in Boca Raton I went to wouldn't treat any jw or worldly person with homosexual tendencies. Why? Because, scripturally, they were wrong. She also had jw patients sign a statement beforehand that if they spoke of anything exposing "serious sin" - she would be honor bound to "speak to the elders" - REPORT - them.
So, in essence, I agree with you. Going to a jw therapist while being a jw doesn't allow a person to fully speak about themselves, unless the jw and his family, etc., is pretty much sinless in his actions, heart, mind & body....doesn't doubt the WTBTS, FDS class, elders, teachings, jw history, etc.
In others words - a jw better pick their words carefully if they don't want to be reported for sin violations.....because the point of much therapy is to speak about the things in your mind & heart.
Btw, "exploration of things you might want to do, but know are wrong" isn't the extent of it. It has been shown that hypnosis does help in behavior modification (smoking, extreme negativity, etc.), and many people don't consider it "wrong".....but I seriously doubt that a jw therapist would encourage.....or just downright discourage......such a form of accepted treatment.
Glad you're sticking around
