So last night we had some friends around for dinner, (not JW) & it was a really wonderful evening. We talked about a variety of subjects, just had a laugh & drunk wine & beer. This morning my husband & I were talking about how nice it was, how free we felt with our opinions. Then he said, "That is why JW's gossip all the time, it's because their conversation is so limited. You are afraid that you may watch the wrong movie or say the wrong thing maybe slip up with a swear word & then you become the subject of gossip. Maybe they will run back to the elders & there will be a marking talk on you". Well I think he may be right, cause really your whole conversation should centre on talking about the Borg,if it doesn't then you must be spiritually weak, not good association.

What do you think, why so much malicious gossiping?

Well I agree, I think they gossip because acceptable subjects of conversation are limited...but I also think they gossip because they're frustrated. These are people who were never allowed to live up to their potential, or follow the natural direction they were supposed to take in life. They are bitter, and stuck, and listless.

There's a tattletale policy. You turn someone in and it makes you look better and more spiritual.

Gossiping provides the opportunity to find out dirt on someone.

Ha! My mum who's in, proceeds to tell me how her friends are such gossips and then she starts telling me all the gossip. LOL I feel sorry for them. They don't have much to talk about otherwise and in a cult where everything you do is scrutinised, commented on, moulded, well, the very set-up breeds this culture. Actually, come to think about it, I think she's started vetting her gossip since we've been trying to wake her up. Now I only hear about deaths and illnesses. So many have cancer:(

IMO, The WTBT$ does a good job of teaching the flock that they are "good for nothing slaves". The biggest gossipers often have the lowest self esteem.

Gossiping about others is an attempt to feel better about themselves. The gossiper is thinking, I may be imperfect but at least I'm not as bad as so and so ......

The entire religion is wrapped in negativity.

The watchtower(GB) teaches that gossip is wrong, but they practice it in almost every article. Most articles have a story about someone,s not living up to their standard and must accept discipline to get rid of their erring ways. Well, how do they get the stories? From the elders who gossip about what they listen to in judicial meetings. When a pioneer or ms confesses about one of their weaknesses to the elders they usually don't want their experiences broadcast in the Watchtower, but thats where they wind up. One example is in this June 2016, right after the tight pants episode. Unless these stories are completely made up. See if you can locate the gossip about the "brother".

no worse gossipers, guttersnipers, slanderers , backstabbers,character assassinators than jw's they simply thrive on it , but they become like it because of the close-knitness of their environments, one of the relief's of leaving their toxic unhealthy world.

Baker, His conduct came to light & he got much needed help. Can some-one please explain what this much needed help would have entailed? Personally I think it is BS, they just say they will help so that they can gain even more info about the person store it up & use at a later date to kick them out. One Elder told me, that the gossip amongst the elders on the Gold Coast is prolific. When they had an elders meeting with the CO one of them put his hand up & asked what he should tell his wife, the CO apparently said the same thing you should always be telling her, absolutely nothing.

I have non witness family who do not tolerate gossip - my sister-in-laws creed is 'if you can't say something nice about someone - then don't say anything' - LOL she breaks her own rules sometimes though when under real duress!

If they knew the JWs well, and got to see behind the scenes, they'd be repulsed.

I'm sorry, but it's true - gossip, character assassination, back biting and malice are NOT rare occurrences. Several of the most malicious witches I have ever met were very popular JWdubesses and their husbands were no better....when you are confined to such a small population of potential social circles it's really anxiety making....
