This is now my favorite time of year! I'm a born in and when I was growing up my father was a UBM so I have memories of the holidays with family and friends gatherings and presents, up until the teen years and everyone was grown, and the folks that used to cook that big meal got tired of doing that because their kids were grown and so on. So during my teen years until I moved out my parents house that when the holidays got to be a boring. When I moved out I have always done something special on the holiday and my birthday which just happens to be two weeks before Christmas, So between Thanksgiving and New Years I celebrate each holiday.

One thing I've gotten accustomed to doing every Xmas eve for some reason is watch the Mass from St. Patrick's here in New York, don't know about the rest of the country, but it's televised here every year. I've been watching faithfully watching for almost 20 years now.

I don't celebrate the birth of a messiah, nor do I attempt to interfere with anyone who feels compelled to do so.

Generally speaking, I overeat ALL THE TIME. It is my favorite sport. National Holidays inspire me to atempt a new PR! Yay!

I DO NOT give Xmas gifts but I do give gifts - all the time.

"Here - I though you could use a toaster knob."

"Well now all you need is a boat to put under those twin Evinrude E-TEC G2 engines. Call me when you got one!"

Yes and no. I go with my husband to his relatives for Christmas, usually on Christmas Eve. I never give gifts to my children in December, it seems like it is either late January or early February before I do this. I'm always running late.

I see Christmas for what it was before Christ was supposedly born (that thing never existed, and even if it did, it would not have been worth anything). Which is a celebration of the Sun. And yes, I still worship the Sun--which is the real Christ.

I don't remember celebrating xmas tho relatives would give us a few presents at that time - more than our JW mother ever did for my whole life.

My most pleasant memories was of the neighbor girl's tree. The smell of the tree combined with the big hot bulbs of multi colored lights that looked like they were from Candyland is the best for me. Otherwise I haven't any feeling for it. Same thing with birthdays etc. I feel bad about trees killed for no reason - they aren't even good for burning.

Like Biahi I feel my childhood was stolen by that cult. I love the smell of a conifer in my house covered with petty lights. My daughter and I love a roast dinner and having the couple of relatives not trapped in the cult around for a meal with plenty of wine.

We give one another gifts but try to avoid the price of them escalating each year. I hate the commercialisation of Christmas, the huge expensive presents we're expected to give, we resist it, I hate being a victim of advertising.

As with anything else do it your way. I'm not celebrating the birth of Christ I'm joining in with my culture and having fun.

Its a good excuse to be able to eat drink and be merry with family and friends and have a good time associating with those you love and those that love you .

And let`s not forget the kids ,what a joyous time it is for them and the parents want them to have a special time.

Nothing religious about it at all.

I would hazard a guess that a great proportion of people in western lands and maybe also elsewhere that Xmas is celebrated by the majority of people who do not practice any Christian religion .

And that those who do attend a Church service at Xmas probably only do so on those other occasions such as Easter ,Weddings and funerals. If that.

I celebrate Saturnalia. Exact same thing. Only my daughter calls it Christmas. It's also a good comeback when smug JWs tell me I celebrate a pagan festival. My reply is "Yes. I openly celebrate Saturnalia. My ancestors celebrated this festival thousands of years ago. You know as well as I, Christmas has nothing to do with christianity".

Many have said that they just can't be bothered. I understand that.

If a person is raised JW, the holidays of Christendom have as much emotional context for them as the holidays celebrated by South American headhunters or the residents of ancient Tartessos.

    Zip, Zero, Nada.

This is no shortcoming on their part - it is an example of how cultural heritage can pass along buckets of nothing.
