Loveandhateexams ( Q) " I am giving everyone on this board ...a new " COMMANDMENT" we must love one another." have you cleared this with Simon?
( A) I would " HATE" everybody on this board to " LOVE" everyone. That's " Cult " LOVE.
My "O.P" ( which I am regretting starting) is Jesus COMMANDED we " LOVE" each other, and this I believe was unreasonable. However the thread has bought up the translation of the word "LOVE" and put it in another context, furthered qualified by:-
" Mgmelkat" who wrote " I am an athiest, but I believe in the Golden Rule, and I endeavour to be "LOVING" to everyone I encounter"
Therefore kindly do not read my " O.P" and conclude I was suggesting we " LOVE" each other...I would have to be drunk or high on meths to suggest that, I simply used it as an illustration that my interpretation of Jesus " COMMANDMENT" we " LOVE" each other is unreasonable.

I know it's not cool to say this but I used the word " LOVE" today...
I had a problem with a water leak on my house gutter, my friend said " I have a friend who can fix that...blah blah, (fix it cheaply) I said " I would " LOVE" to hear from him" Only afterwards did I think how qualified is this guy i have said I would " LOVE" to fix the gutter?
The word " LOVE" and how we use and need it is wired.

Love is a feeling, just like, LIKE, is a feeling...in the words of Bonnie Rait, "I can't make you love me if you don't, I can't make you feel something you don't". That pretty much sums it up....we can't love everyone, because we can't know everyone...You can't command love, you can change your heart to feel....because many folks have put up a wall of protection for whatever reason....some have loved so deep, and was hurt, they dare not to love again...and there are so many scenarios of why folks love and why some don't....
To me Like is a stronger word than Love...we love hamburgers, we love a good hot cup of coffee, etc...but like is another story....to me...when you like something....you go beyond love...like is deeper...like can take a licking and keep on ticking....when you like your spouse, friend, boy or girlfriend, you are more likely to forgive them, but when you love someone, it's seems so hard to forgive because the love feels betrayed...like goes with the flow....
In the words of Rodney King..."Can we all just get along"....we can at least be civil to one another. Even when you are in life you will love some or like some....you will feel closer to some then not so close to others...everybody doesn't deserve a front row seat in your life.... You can choose to get along with folks...or you can choose not too...nobody can command you to love....but they suggest...just to keep the peace

" Nathan Nantas" I simply don't get your humor. So having cleared that up and my runt over, you are honest and human, through and through. So I hope we can " RESPECT" each other? as for"LOVE" ummm well I hope I don't need to clear that up?
Now isn't the above better than Jesus " COMMANDING" us to " LOVE" each other? Respecting each other should be enough?

Excellent points Rebel. When we believe that most folks are just trying to establish peace, success & happiness in their lives, it goes a long way in overlooking expressions that we disagree with, and not take them personal.
Views that seem misdirected to us, suddenly become perfectly understandable when, we realize that the real goals are pretty much the same as our own; even if the paths are totally different.
I don't think principled love can find a foothold without this understanding.

Strangely as a witness they talk about loving each other, and possibly because they interpret it as a COMMANDMENT..
In Watchtower World the reality is:
" We must love one another"
Until instruction is given to turn on an individual..
Everyone is suspect,no one is safe..
