A few years ago they had a similar talk and my mother stopped talking to my sister. After a few weeks the sister called and when mom told her my sister said but I love your my mother. Something to that effect. Anyway the shunning stopped maybe because my sister was never baptized. What do you think the masses will do to inactive ones that aren't doing anything wrong , shun or not? Will this horrible policy work or backfire?

It will cause some to wake up but sadly there will be more victims as many jdubs take the convention stuff very seriously.
It sounds like the fear level is really being raised this time round with all the crazy GT videos. In years to come this convention will prove to be another embarrassment to the org because those videos will stay on the internet forever, however in the meantime more good people will suffer.

It's hard enough to get them to shun actually disfellowshipped relatives, I doubt it will effect inactive slackers or non baptized ones. I think it is more likely that if you push your non jw agenda on them they will choose not to associate just to stop the bells from going off in their heads.

They have to adopt blunter warnings because so many Witnesses are not listening. Otherwise, if everyone is following instructions, why do so?

That will depend on the level of indoctrination of the JW.
Yes there are some hardcore zealots that will follow this new suggestion on shunning hoping to gain another week of everlasting life through their "works".
But I think most will ignore it, at least as far as their close family with whom they want to associate.
Most JWs are doing the religion "ala carte". They pick and choose what they want to believe and what they want to do.

I do not believe they are asking you to treat Inactive ones like Apostates.
They are saying if you know baptised ones who are doing things "against the JW laws" you should not associate with them.
That has always been the case.

Really is a crazy new rule or whatever it is. But perfect for the JW gossip train, which they are amazingly great at. If someone is in a different hall, how would you know they're inactive? I'm in a city with about 8 congregations, how would anyone not in mine know I haven't been going for the past year?? Enter the gossip train....."have you heard ____ hasn't been going to meetings???"

Nothing that new here. They are not saying treat inactive ones as apostates. As ttdtt says, they are saying don't associate with baptised ones who you know are doing things that are "wrong". That's an old thing out for a new airing.
