I’ve read that some families are not looking forward to spending time with their families and friends during the holidays because of their opposing political views.
Isn’t that just ridiculous??

Not as ridiculous as people not speaking to their families due to their difference in belief system or religion or sexual orientation

IMHO, religion and politics are two areas where it seems to be ok to be Narcissistic and to conclude (with deep emotion) that what YOU personally believe, is absolutely correct and is the most important thing in the world, therefore anyone who doesn't agree with you is wrong and they are either evil, ignorant or just plain stupid.
The more narcissistic your friends or family members are, the worse it will be.
During the U.S. Presidential election, it was quite alarming to see how rabid., otherwise rational people could become when posting their views on social media. I "blocked" a few people during that time because of it.

My family are not divided at all on religious matters. We're just not of a religious bent in any way whatsoever. We do have differing opinions on the EU and brexit, plus some have reservations regarding same-sex marriage. It would seem to be a typical microcosm of many UK families.
We don't fall out about any of this. We've learned not to become obsessive in our desires to swing other family members over to our point of view. If we do discuss any controversial points, we keep our voices low and calm and back off immediately if anyone shows discomfort.

Everyone is entitled to their viewpoint but it is ridiculous when that viewpoint makes enemies within families abd friendships

My mother voted Green but now supports Trump. Some friends of mine do too. I can't help but be snide and say that he's doing a great job of waking up Congress and the SCOTUS to the need to limit the ever overreaching powers of the Executive branch. Backhanded compliments directed to the Dear Leader are the only way to talk to Trump supporters. -

Everyone has diverse opinions about politics, it would be quite ridiculous to think people or families would stop socializing directly because of them.
That really says something between the lines doesn't ?

I do find it necessary to be circumspect on sharing my personal poliItical views so no don't think it's ridiculous if falling outs occur where poitical views are shared freely. Truth is, politics these days is very divisive and the issues are polarizing. Many of the issues are considered "deal-breakers."
Issues that are "hot button" and people get very "triggered" and upset if you happen to...say...oh I don't know...disagree with them. It's a friggin jungle out there.

I think you can disagree without being disagreeable. There’s no reason to be crazy about anything. Life goes on regardless of who is in power.

It's impossible to have an open discussion about many of the issues because people get so damned hysterical.
