I like the i-loo. You would have to be a bit flush with money to buy one. I'm not poo-pooing the idea though.

Just imagine! I could be sat on the shitter right this minute!

All the British folk I've met (just a handful) have been very nice people.

I've heard that England is a sucky place to live though, and that many Englanders would like to come to the USA or Canada.

All the best rock bands come from England - The Who, Led Zep, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, oh yeah! Brit rock rules!

Last time I was in England ( staying with relatives) the local butcher rang up daily to see how many sausages aunty Beryl wanted that day! Then she'd ask everyone how many they wanted with their tea , total it up, and order. From what I saw, when Poms go shopping they dont buy a bag of tomatoes, they buy them singly, two, three at a time.

    wierd people

By the way. I can assure you that, if you were the sensitive type, Australia was not a nice place to be a pom, in the 60s. There was a fair amount of ragging. They still use the stereo type of the "whingeing pom" on Australian TV. Ive discovered, however, there really IS a whingeing class of pom. He comes from the midlands and has nothing good to say about anything and speaks in a grumbling monotone.

One thing that really pees me off about the UK is our dreadful National Anthem. God save our Queen is a hideous dirge. Lot's of people at patriotic do's are starting to sing Land of Hope and Glory instead, which is actually England's own anthem.

...and of course the words are far more humble:

    Land of Hope and Glory,
    Mother of the free,
    How shall we extole thee,
    Who are born of thee,
    Wider and still wider,
    Shall thy bounds be set,
    God who made the mighty,
    Make thee mightier yet!!,
    God who made thee mighty,
    Make thee mightier yet!

    Pretty cool, eh?

Wow a thread about us wonderfull Brits. How COOL ! well I for one am proud of my country and I love it here.

    Blacksheep - shame on you

I don't think they are open to change; like they drive on the left side (unlike all other Europeans), and they refuse to do otherwise; they refuse to adapt the Euro currency, becuase of course, they are "different." They are in the midst of other Euro cultures but stubbornly refuse to find similarities between themselves and other continentals.

You know the reason why we dont want in the Euro, because we dont need to, we are proud of our culture and history, we will lose a lot if we go into it. As for the Euro, we are wanted in as we have a lot of money so Europe want a share of it. If we go into the Euro it was seriously mess up our economy and if there is a recession in another country then we go head first in with it. Why should we lose our status and our monarchy at that to be part of Europe - I for one want out completely from Europe.

Dont want to sound prejudiced though, I do love America, Canada and Spain aswell !

Anyway, it was so nice to see everyones postings, it is a great country !

There is a forgotten, nay almost forbidden word, which means more to me than any other.
That word is ENGLAND." - Sir Winston Churchill

This precious stone set in the silver sea

which serves it in the office of a wall,

Or as a moat defensive to a house,

Against the envy of less happier lands,

This blessed plot, this earth, this realm, This England !

Exactly so why would we want to bugger that up.

Englishman - I thought Land of hope and glory was the UK anthem and Pomp and Circumstance the English one

As an American I kind of think of all English people as Andy Partidge-esqe, Candians as Cold Filtered Americans, and Austrailians as New Zealanders with attitudes.
